Transmission fluid via cooler hose

I'm aware of the 3x3 method and that's what I've done last time (30k) ago.
I was just taking to a friend and he said that there's a better way that not many people know about, except mechanics:

To replace the transmission fluid, you unplug the cooler hose going from transmission to radiator and start pouring new transmission fluid from the top until the transmission fluid going out is clean.
Has anyone heard about this? Is it better than the 3x3 method?

Thanks @ggesq. Do you recommend 3x3 or the cooling method?

Based on what I have read here on AZ, I would do the cooling line method. Since you did a full 3x3 30k miles ago, you won't be shocking your system ( I don't think) with all brand new fluid.

My question to you is why you would do that though? There's technically the very faint risk of not pouring fast enough and running it dry. I don't really see the upside unless you're in a rush?

The discharge fluid transitions from old brown fluid to bright red in just a few seconds. It's obvious when you've gotten the old fluid out. Fastest most efficient way of getting 100% new fluid in

There's also the risk of overfilling it as well.
