3.5 is an all new "Earth Dreams" engine with Direct Injection. Which is why is makes more HP/Tq than old 3.7.

Although I have no idea how different it actually is than the old J.

On that video where RLX is shown cruising on NY streets - at 2:48 it shows that rear wheels also make turns to some minimum extent when turning front ones in the motion...

am I seeing wrong or this is really available on new LRX to help turning radius?

Yes, this was described in the specs. I believe the wheel rotate slightly due to actuators on the pushing on suspension rather than a true rotation.

Supposedly that will only be an option on the standard FWD. The toe in/out allows for tighter turns and more control and hopefully less understeer inherent to FWD.

OK, up to speed finally...sat here and read the whole merged thread!

Apart from the lame name, I'm thinking this dog might just hunt. The concept LEGEND looks sweet in black. Toned down beak, cool LEDs, side view sort of a conservative Lexus-Infiniti-Genesis mashup, from behind it's Beemerish taillights and no more silly crease in the rear bumper. Those psychedelic 20s are a bit much for me. Interior looks cool. Keep the Facebook and Twitter, I'll take Pandora please. No satellite radio? I'll miss paying the $20 a month to SiriusXM. Not.

Styling is modern and not over the top. Love the technology. Mileage improvement to 30 would decrease my gas consumption by a third. Will the electric motors suffice to replace SH-AWD??

Like Tampa, I prefer driving a car that makes economic and esthetic sense, ideally one that is made in Japan and discounted considerably from retail, rather than a car that is European and ubiquitous. (Can you say BMW? Nice to look at, but a dime a dozen in SoCal.)

So I think I'll be saving up for 2015, the second model year. In the meantime, my paid-for LEGEND is on the second set of PAX tires and approaching the end of its extended warranty, with water pump and timing belt a mere 10K miles away. Gotta say guys, my 2006 still rocks.

Arrow Info on Wikipedia

Well, we all know that the new RLX is gonna have 370 horsepower. But I just read on wikipedia that the RLX is gonna have 449 foot pounds of torque. And the price range is gonna be around $53,000 to $61,000. With the Advance package costing $61,000. I'm not sure how accurate this info is. But at least it's a start.

That 449 foot pounds of torque sounds NICE ! I hope it is low end torque

Agreed! Those torque numbers are beyond belief.

Ironically, Acura could guarantee that the car will be a big (nay, HUGE) seller simply by rebadging it as the Acura LEGEND. Perfect opportunity...squandered. On the bright side, I am looking forward to some lovely discounts as dealers try to clear their slow-moving inventory of fast-moving cars!

I also wish Acura would call the damned thing "Legend." I see (but don't agree with) the method behind the madness. For example, Cadillac has abandoned named for their cars and replaced them with random alphabets and it seems to be working pretty well for them.

Back to the RLX, I'm looking forward to seeing the car in production. As far as the "plain" styling goes, hopefully Acura will provide an A-Spec type of kit for the RLX.

Thanks for the post, but I bet a lot of that is still in flux. Note that none of the electronics was shown.
However, I'm glad they rid of the "rip away" interior door handle

Holy accessory switches

I don't think Honda would debut something as different as an infotainment system with two screens, only to take it away from the production model and let some other manufacturer put it in their car first.

Nothing else seems particularly groundbreaking, I think it'll be the interior materials that make or break this interior.

I drove a 80's Honda Prelude with 4WS four wheel steering which was amazing to maneuver at slow speeds such as parking.

There is "LKAS" button on the steering wheel. They don't fit it on current RL in US. Are they going to reconsider??

I, for one, really liked the "rip away" door handle of the RL. I really prefer an arm rest that lets you rest your arm from elbow-to-hand on something flat, and then provides a handle to grasp. Ooooohhh.

The door panels of the RLX look utterly generic and have no "depth". Say what you will about the current RL, the door panels have some character, and nice storage. I hope they spruce up the doors in the RLX. They just don't look very special.

I'm also a bit leery of the potential for plood on the RLX dash -- that area where the console and lower dashboard meet looks like a plood-fest (especially that lid thing in the console). The top-line car should have the real deal, save for some incidental bits.

I guess you never had the handle rip away away from the door and into your hands. A great feeling.

I have to agree on several points, Rob. I too like the current door and handle design. I rest my arm and grab the handle as you do. Knowing the handle is truly plastic, I always pull the door shut by grabbing the handle at the bottom, reducing stress on the plastic. I wish it were actually made from lightweight aluminum as the plastic appears. It would be a nice tech touch to a car that gets little credit for the amount of aluminum components. The RLs doors are tank solid and tank weighted...*thunk*.

And I agree with the interior mock up of the RL(X). It is nice. It does look like an Acura design. But some elements look more TL to me than flagship. I do not like the black-only steering wheel and dash. I love the two tone interior of the current RLs (except for the black interiors being all black). And that the two tone of the Taupe and Parchment interiors are of the same family colors, not black dash & wheel + alternate color. It has a richer appeal to me (though many find black to be more sporty). The door designs do look like a BMW5 series copy.

As mentioned above, the jury is out yet on the final derivative of this concept mock up, not just in components and features, but in the textures, materials and color tones. I can forgive a plastic mock up as it is to represent the design. But the execution must be better and hopefully we will see changes for the final deployment. Similarly plood is likely for the concept display, but better be real wood for production (or available in some packaging). I would expect to see more satin finished wood as become the high end trend. Perhaps an aluminum or tech finish for the sport minded as an option.

It is odd how some minor details can make or break a vehicle for me. But after after the black dash and steering wheel of my former TL, I will never buy another. Always dusty, filmy and too dull or too shiny. The RL dash has been virtually maintenance free for me. And the wood wheel upgrade should have never been delayed on my part. I still love it. But on the RL(X) the concept implies only black, and even a wood wheel upgrade would not be sufficient in the detail I seek for a flagship model. Fine for the TL but not the RL(X).

The Acura RL has always had a hard time fitting in. Much like people you might have known in high school. Trying to hang with the popular crowd but always falling short. The current RL is satisfactory, but in a group filled with the latest and greats from Lexus, Audi, BMW, Mercedes, and Infiniti, it’s tough to demand some spotlight. The 2013 RLX concept is Acura’s latest attempt to fit into the large luxury sedan category.

Shown at the 2012 New York International Auto Show, Acura previewed the concept with a beautifully artistic video (see below) shot along the streets of NYC, where there’s even a cameo from a much-older Acura Legend.

Never 1 to shy away from green technology, the RLX-concept has Acura’s new Sport Hybrid Super Handling All-Wheel Drive, which features a 3.5-liter V6 engine, along with 3 electric motors, 2-of-which supply power to the rear wheels. The engine is rated at 370hp and mated to a 7-speed transmission. Green-indeed. Acura has hopes to gain notoriety by nabbing that much-desired 30+mpg rating. As noted, a FWD model will be available with a 310hp engine.

Acura has filled the cabin with technology that will suit any technophile. The newly-updated AcuraLink and Ultra-Premium 14-speaker sound system give the driver and passengers access to internet and email, streaming internet radio, and multiple safety features. With a dual-screen set-up in the dash, which Acura has named On Demand Screen, your hands are free from the monotony of buttons.

The clean lines of the sedan show that Acura isn’t taking any chances with its flagship sedan. The stately sedan is sleek and sophisticated for its intended audience. The exterior design has come under some scrutiny, with some saying the concept is too plain, while some say the concept resembles other sedans already on the road. I really cannot see anybody being completely turned-off by the design, yet it’s beautiful enough to attract a larger clientele to Acura. The pendulum grille lives on, but designers have made it a subtle, attractive signature piece. Up-front, Acura installed its latest Jewel-Eye headlights, which are made up of LEDs to help guide the driver into turns and give a more precise glow to the road. Acura also fitted its concept with unfortunate 20-inch rims, which will [strike]likely[/strike] hopefully disappear when it reaches production.

In a category blurred with beautiful sedans and tech-filled cabins, the RLX may have a chance to draw in a new crop of drivers that love luxury and sport, yet crave green-tinged efficiency when necessary.

This picture is all I need to see to know that the interior is far from complete.

Look at the hump. There is no Honda that I know of that would ever place a single carpet insert here like that and certainly no Legend. The things to take away from this car are drive train, engine, technology, and chassis. All the rest was clearly, to me at least, put together in a hasty fashion.

Actually the Honda LEGEND does have a center carpet mat for the rear hump in the current generation. And I suspect the center hump is more pronounced in the RLX Concept as it will be a likely storage compartment for the IMA batteries, serving as a central spine and balancing the weight of the car.

Well I'll be! It just looks so out of place.

What is below the vents in the rear on that Legend? Is that in the MMC RL too?

Either seat heater / cooler switched or a means to summons a Geisha. (awaiting Heavy's comments)

The JDM LEGEND has several cool features we do not get in the RL.

They have a smart card reader (now in the center console box).
They have Honda LKAS.
They have an LED "Periscope" that raises from the passenger front corner to measure clearance when cornering narrow spots.
They have a real time vehicle recording system (front and rear views).
They have a JDM version of Onstar with cell & online interfaces & synching of personal media and settings.
They have Full concierge services, weather, traffic, parking and even EARTHQUAKE ALERTS in the car.
They have optional shag carpet mats.
They have factory interior LED light options.
They have optional fabric seat covers (over the leather).
They have 3 options of real wood tones.
They have still have optional ASPEC suspension & wheels.
They have factor exterior lighting color options ('white lights')
They even have a Honda aromatherapy device that plugs into the console power port.

*sigh*
