Some people are always negative, some people just like to be contrary, and others like to stir things up, especially anonymously on the internet.

Some look online for solutions, and discussions, some work with what they have and find solutions to what bothers them, or they just deal with it. Life can be way too short and too full of pain to get mad, or angry about a car and it's technology. I mean really!

I choose to read, and evaluate what I have read. I knew AA wasn't available when I bought the RDX, with the hope it was coming. I still hope it is coming. One day we will all get in our RDXs and see that magic update waiting for us. AND, if not, oh well.

I enjoy discussing cars, almost to a fault.

That's why they've been working together to launch Android Auto on the new RDX. But that doesnt' change the fact that the software that Google owns currently doesn't support the new interface in the RDX. It's the same premise if Windows introduced some new way of interacting with the operating system beyond touch screen and keyboard/mouse. Even if Microsoft in your analogy incorporates that new interface into Windows any 3rd party software (which Microsoft doesn't own and it's not their responsibility to change) would be on the hook to change their software to make it compatible with the new way of interacting with the software (which is the "interface").

Argue all you want, it doesn't change the simple fact that Google is working on a fix (as they have been for the past year) and there hasn't been any official communication about when it will be available. You can be upset that here we are a year in and it still isn't available, that's fair. Just saying being mad or yelling at Acura won't magically address anything as in this case Acura isn't able to fix it on their own. They need Google to do their part, and Google is working on it.
It also doesn't change the fact that RDX created an interface that wasn't compatible with a standard and now wants that standard to change.

We're all fanbois of Acura here, but the fact is that Acura built something that wasn't compatible and unilaterally advertised it as "coming soon". This is Acura's fault any way you want to frame it.

Why not? Acura created the problem and it's asking Google to add/change their interface input to accommodate. It's call a feature request in product management. Why should Google prioritize their sprints to serve 60k+ customer vs working on a new design that will benefit millions ? Which they evidently did....

We can only hope Acura can convince or pay Google to accelerate their part.

Or put a damn touch screen! Give us options ? Most competitors in this segment have multiple inputs.

Just mirror the Android screen, add a mount for phones and let the phone screen be the controller - at least until you figure this out (which is obviously going to take years)

You mean like casting to the car screen from our phone?! What a brilliant idea!

Let's see if the engineers at Acura can take the idea and run with it

It would be pretty easy to lock it down to android auto. If the phone holder were placed correctly then it would be no more distracting than a tuochscreen - remember that "hey Google" can run most everything. You'd probably never need the screen.

I expect royalties when Acura does this.

Worthwhile watch. They talk about how the new ui design allows them more flexibility for screen sizes and inputs, and also mention split screen support for wide screens

He talks about touchpad support as an input mechanism at 11:45. This is probably what acura was waiting on. Good to hear something from google on touchpad although it does not say anything about absolute positioning.

He is most likely referring to touch pad like Lexus.

Unfortunately, "Android for Cars" may mean that all the current car infotainment systems that are running "forked" specialized versions of Android will potentially become orphaned dinosaurs.

If you go to 11:45, he is talking about touch pad support for Android Auto.

Since Google releasing the new android auto this summer, I assumed summer is the earliest we will get our android auto update.

and then another quarter after this..... It took Mazda two years to bring AA to CX-5 after they initially had promised at their launch of new gen 2017 CX-5.

I really hope I'm wrong....

Angry 2019 RDX Problems w/ infotainment system No Android Auto

2019 RDX Problems with Entertainment system. Acura says the problem doesn't exist. Took it to the dealer, they said nothing was wrong. see video

Android Auto was promised in a couple months- still not available. One of the big selling points for my purchase of this car was the use of Android Auto. Acura has said that They didn't promise anything.

Acura has been promising Android Auto for over a year: https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/20... Was Promised Android Auto would be working in a couple months. It's now been 9 months since I bought it and Acura is still saying that they don't know when it will be ready. This is a long ongoing problem with this Acura defect: https://www.reddit.com/r/Acura/commen...

Without meaning to be a jerk,I have to laugh a bit about the poster above using a Honda salesperson's opinion about Carplay vs AA as a "source" - that's like claiming that vanilla is a better favor than chocolate because a salesperson told you so.

My experience with phones is that IOS has adherents, and Android has fans, and neither one is a whole lot better than the other. Just personal choices.

I've been driving a Lincoln SUV (which, btw, had proven to be a surprisingly pleasent ownership experience) for three years. It has AA and I can tell you that AA is a major upgrade over anything. I can get into the car and say something like "ok Google navigate to Sherman oaks Acura" -and it figures out that I want to go to Center Acura on Van Nuys Blvd, warns me of traffic on the route, and then plots everything before I've backed out of the garage. Or I can say "play Steve Earle on Spotify" and it gets a playlist instantly. Honestly, it's the best infotainment feature I know of on any vehicle.

I still think that Acura will eventually get this worked out, and (having extensively test driven every vehicle in this class) still consider the RDX to be equal to any vehicle in the class. It's a fantastic vehicle - superior to SUVs that cost thousands more. I do think it is a shame that Acura has screwed over owners to this extent.

Acura should have just taken a safe route, put a large touch screen in the vehicle with a proven infotainment system (like the one in the Accord).

Sounds ike your satisfied with the Acura nav, which is great. These days, happiness with infotaiment is a big part of satisfaction with a vehicle

Personally, I'm not convinced. I'm not pulling the trigger until they get Android. I do think they will though.

Back when navigation system first became common in cars, Acura actually had the best on the market. Honestly, I still think it would be better than happy the vehicles in the road today.

to be honest, i can see why they didnt implement android auto simply because they had to wait for google to finish the update with support for wide screens which was release in august/september. it's already been said the update for the support will be released this fall.

If all you have in a forum are current owners, you wind up with a big echo chamber because nobody knows what else is out there and to expect more. I don't join a forum just to hear people pat each other on their backs for picking the best car; I want to know how the car stacks up in the grand scheme of things.

Well, this thing has to be ready before the next gen TLX drops which could possibly come next spring. If it doesn't come out by that it's never coming at all.

It does cover the vent and the temperature control buttons a bit, but not enough to make it a problem. I recently changed to a Samsung Galaxy s10+, which is a bit bigger than the phone in the picture and it's still not bothering me.
