Display properties. Where you choose a screensaver. There is an option to passord protect.

right click on the desktop and go to properties. hit the 'screen saver' tab, and there is a password protect on resume option

No, I could have sworn that my friend clicks some button on the screen or hits something on his keyboard where you dont have to wait for a screen saver and you have to hit ctrl alt delete and then type in a password to log back in?

Windows Key + L in Windows XP to automatically lock the workstation.

In Windows 2000, its CTRL-ALT-Delete and then press the Space Bar to lock.

To lock it, hit ctrl-alt-delete and then select "lock computer"
To unlock, it's ctl-alt-delete and type in the password.

I'm not sure the screensaver password is considered safe.

It's not the screensaver password....when the screensaver comes on it locks the computer. They just never changed the terminology from windows 98. Since you couldnt lock win98 it would just use a password.

In XP home you can't hit ctrl-alt-delete to lock the computer...it opens task manager. If you turn off fast user switching then you can use ctrl-alt-delete to lock the computer.
