Windows XP installation HELP!!!!

Can someone tell me what the hell is wrong with my comp!!! Well I tried installing a legal copy of windows xp onto my computer and the damn thing freezes up on me while at the finalizing installation step. It says that installation should complete in about 9 minutes but it just stays there. What can it be? The copy of windows xp that I am installing is a legal copy. Can someone help??? Everytime I turn on my computer it starts in the installation mode and always gets stuck on the finalizing installation step. I can't even get to the desk top anymore. Am I going to have to wipe everything off my comp and start over??? Someone help cause I can't gain access to the internet anymore!!! And no internet=no ACL!!!

Personally I'd wipe out the drive and start from scratch.
Wipe out out, get knoppix or something if you need to use it before reinstalling.

Are you installing it over an existing copy of WinXP? You repairing or are you looking for a fresh install of WinXP?

If you're not repairing, I recommend reformatting the drive before installing WinXP.

The last time I had a WinXP install fail on me was because CompUSA was a dumbass and installed my friend's CPU Heatsink backwards...so the system kept on freezing becuase it was overheating...

Well I was installing it over an existing copy. But in the menu, it gave me the option of reparing or installing a new copy. So I went for the fresh install. Now it just freezes up on me in the final steps.

I had trouble with xp a couple of times. I ended up just buying a new hard drive and start fresh. You have to format the drive the NTFS because xp likes that so if you upgrade from a FAT32 and did not change it to that, its a b**ch. Personally, if i would do it again, I would just go with win2000 pro.

So there is no way of trying to finish the installation??? I mean it gets close to the end but it just gets stuck. If all else fails then I am just gonna have to wipe everything off and start a new!

just wipe it out and start over... easiest way and most time saving.
