Kinda a pain, but you could always boot from your xp cd and do a repair. Re-activate the repair copy and do SP2 and all updates again.

 

well, you are technically alwasy supposed to disable all you're other programs unless it says "you may continue doing other tasks while this is installing" or whatever. Otherwise, I'd go with what vector said, try a repair, and if that doesnt'w work then just say screw it till the next update comes out.

 

I had the same problem with one of the updates....I still can't get the update to install...

I did successfully update the comp with the other updates, including the one you're having problems with. But now if I go in to check for any updates I need it says there are none..
