Windows 95 help

I have a customer that wants to put a password on a win 95 machine. They want it at boot up before getting to windows. Is this possible or is there a program out there that will do this?

Why doenst the customer setup a passwprd through bios? This way nobody cant get into the computer without the right password. I used to do that before I got Win2K. Maybe MDaniel has a better solution.

That what I was thinking, but I have never done it, and my customer is pretty computer illiterate so it would need to be fairly simple.

It's pretty easy, just type the password and retype it. Not hard at all my friend. Simple as baking a cake.

There is a registry hack to have 95 boot with the screensaver enabled. This way the screensaver password would suffice. It's been a while since I've had to reference it. I'll see what I can find out.

Yeah, that was my first thought too. But I hate all flavors of 9x, so getting away from it always looks good to me. Anyway, as you know, the Win9x logon dialog is toothless. People are amazed when I sit down at their computer, start it up, hit ESC at the logon dialog, and get in. How did you do that without my password? LOL. The BIOS password will work, just be sure you know how to clear the CMOS because I'm sure they'll eventually forget the password and get locked out. I seem to remember some 3rd party software which will create a true windows logon password. I think Norton made it. You might also try searching Download.com or Tucows.com for security software. I'm sure most can be bypassed with a boot floppy if someone wanted to take a few files. The solution really depends on how secure they want the machine to be.
