im interested in picking up a cheap, used laptop for basic internet browsing, office functions, and for use with this program called VAG-COM that connects to Audi vehicles and allows you to diagnose problems, change/reprogram the vehicle systems in many many ways, clear trouble codes, reset certain systems, etc, etc. anyhow, the laptop is a Gateway Solo 5300 pentium 3, 1 Mhtz.

this is an email with more detailed specs i received:

Windows XP, Nortons 2002 antivirus, Proccessor= x86
Family 6 model 8 stepping 10 Intel-1002 mhz,
memory-256 mb, total virtual memory- 874.16 mb,
samsung cdrom, gateway floppy drive, ess maestro 3 pci
audio, s3 graphics savage ix, xircom mpci modem 56, 20
gb hard drive, intel 82371 ab/eb pci bus master ide
controller, power cord, battery doesnt seem to hold a
charge anymore but they are cheap to get new ones and
this is a common problem with all batteries is that
they lose memory, i believe it is a 14 inch screen.


Also, this laptop comes pre-loaded with the VAG-COM software and the needed cables to connect to the vehicle. that program sells for 200 dollars with the cable.

so whats a fair price to pay for this computer with the VAG-COM program and accessories???

 

A 1 Ghz Machine with 256 MB of ram? Probably around 250-300 bucks. They depreciate much worse than cars.

I wouldn't go more than 400$ on this, but since it is a gateway, give them 20$ and tell them they owe you 19.99 in change.

norton 2000, windows xp, virtual memory. These arent part of the laptops worth. Virtual memory is what the system sets aside of the hard drive to use like ram.
