Virtual Laser Bluetooth Keyboard for Treo 650

http://mytreo.net/archives/2005/08/b...r_treo_650.php

$200....

Virtual Laser Keyboard

mytreo.net/store is proud to present the world's first commercially available Bluetooth Virtual Laser Keyboard! Roughly the size of a disposable lighter, the Virtual Laser Keyboard leverages the power of laser and infrared technology to project a full-size qwerty keyboard onto any flat surface. As you type on the projection, optical recognition detects your keypresses and transfers them to your Bluetooth enabled Treo 650, complete with realistic tapping sounds.

Unlike other traditional keyboards for PDAs, with the Bluetooth Virtual Laser Keyboard, there are no wires or mechanical/moving parts whatsoever. And the entire device weighs less than two ounces!

The Bluetooth Virtual Laser Keyboard comes with a self-contained, rechargeable lithium ion battery that provides it with an internal power supply, so it doesn't need to drain any power from your Treo 650. The battery lasts several hours, ample time for emailing, instant messaging, SMS'ing, typing documents or updating your calendar and phone book entries.

Control the experience

Sound: Control the virtual keyboard sound effects (keyclicks).
Intensity: Control the intensity of the projected virtual keyboard.
Connection: Connect to various Laptop/PC ports.
Sensitivity: Adjust sensitivity of character detection.
Timeouts: Adjust timeouts to conserve the virtual keyboard's battery life.
Auto-repeat: Allow the keyboard to automatically repeat a key based on prescribed parameters.

not about to spend 200 on it though, the normal keyboard is pretty decent.

The future will consist of that and a computer screen you see through a pair of glasses.

I happen to use one of those a few months ago when it was in prototype stages. The sucky thing about it is that you can't "feel" the keys... so tactile ques are not very good. And the other thing is that it wasn't very accurate.

And coming from my certified ergonomist (yes, we do exist) history... the keyboard will do a number on every ligament, tendon, muscle, and bone in your upper extremity... in other words... it's dangerous for you. Can you imagine banging your finger against a hard surface for hours? No desks has 101 springs to push you back...

I think I could get used to it.... but if it isn't accurate, well that's an important problem.

and, if it's bad ergonomics-wise too, well that makes it even worse....

so basically, it's expensive, it doesn't work too well, and it's unhealthy... hmm.. I think I won't be buying one

I can't imagine you would need to 'bang' on the desk...you can very lightly tap and it will work right?

I can see the hand positioning causing problems though...
