Verizon FiOS > *
Just finished having Verizon install their new FiOS system in the house. Holy shit it is fast. Two installers from Verizon were here from 9:30 to 2:00 installing the system. Plus two other guys from a utility company were here to dig up the neighbor's yard and lay the fiber optic cable.

15Mbps down and 2Mbps up for $45/mo with the first month free.

Yes they install it using CAT5 so don't waste your money on CAT6 cable to network your machines from the router.

I was serious. And thanks.
more extreme example, my brother and sister play 32 player halo games online together while i play 64 player battlefield 2, with my laptop in the background leeching off bittorrent, and my stepfather on his PC downloading pr0n... without lag.

There are no install or activation fees. The service includes a free wired router or you can purchase a wireless router through Verizon for $70.
They replace the copper phone wire from the utility box to the house with fiber optic cable. The downside to this is you must have electricity to use the phone. With the copper wire, if you lose electricity to the house you could still make phone calls. To help with this problem they install a battery back-up for the system:

and they install this box where the fiber optic cable reaches the house. Then the voice and data lines enter the house.

Here at work (AOL) we use T3 connection
SAY SUMTHN..N***A !!!!
<- running 15 Mbps down/2 Mbps up from Cox
Just had to make a call and they switched it over in two minutes a few months ago. They probably did it in response to the thread from Verizon FiOS.
It's pretty damned fast, yes.
Cox Northern Virginia users ... it should be an option to anybody who has cable modem service here.

^ That's awesome. I wish i didn't have to go through the trouble of switching but Comcast tried for 7 weeks to fix the problems I was having and they couldn't so fuck 'em.
GREAT. batterybackup and all included for this CHEAP price. I wish they come here fast.!!! But i am pretty happy with my comcast right now. I will post my speeds later on. Almost at 10mbps. dont know how or why when i got the up to 6mbps plan. lol..
ohh by the way STEVE... by them giving you all these items at no extra charge, just the 45 dollars a month, i asume there is a contract to be signed right? 1 year, 2 year,, or no?

Yeah just like anything with Verizon there is a contract. I believe it's 2 year actually. However I'm not too concerned with that. Both of our neighbors have had FiOS for a few months now with zero problems and zero downtime. There's a public elementary school in this neighborhood and all the county schools switched a fiber optic a year ago so it's been available here for a while now.

However, here's a thread back when I got the service in June:
http://www./forum...5&postid=48469
14081 kbps down / 1856 kbps up
I saw it go up to 16 kbps once on the Speakeasy test. Of course, it varies wildly based on the server you're on and general network congestion, but it's always damned fast!

I like Cox now though ... ever since they were forced to get up off their ass and compete against satellite/DSL, they've really cleaned up their act!

Not available for me.
