Bunch of Verizon trucks are running around my neighborhood, they said it may be a month. Then I can officially open my FTP because right now it is horribly slow.

Well, the odd thing is... they've been putting in in more rural areas then metros initially. Around here, they've announced no plans to bring FiOS to the city, but it should be in our two largest suburbs any day now.

I've been on Verizon's Fios notification list for a long time now. Just waiting for the e-mail in my inbox! Damn, that is as fast in real-world tests as I had hoped.

FIOS is awesome. Use it for work sometimes and I am amazed.

Meanwhile I'm stuck with (only) 8 MBPS Comcast at home

Here is what I just tested my speed for my Optimum online.. Not as fast as FiOS, but still not shabby at all. Sometimes I'll get 10mb down, 1mb up. More than what I actually really need it for:

FIOS was announced for my area and I have seen Verizon trucks all over town stringing fiber. They have already run the fiber past my house. I would expect to have it in my house by mid 06

Upload speeds are usually 3-400 kbps faster on a hardwired machine.

They wired my area over the past summer but I didn't think it was worth it over the standard DSL. I guess it is. I'll be getting it.

Can you get it without having a Verizon phone line? And do they block ports like their DSL does?

Cool...I'm a PM overseeing all the construction of Verizons fiber network - mainly in the New England area. It's nice to see a product I've been so closely involved in get launched. What you have on FIOS (we still refer to it as FTTP or Fiber to the Premise) is just the beginning - you won't beleive what will be launched off of this in the near future. Interactive everything!
