I want my FIOS
They ran the fiber past my house. It's just not lit yet
They better give me a damn good rate on TV service too.

I was thinking about that. How is fios tv? Worth it? Will it suck the juice out of fios the way cable has "peak" times.

From what I have read on other forums, SD from FIOS looks better than SD from cable because they have so much bandwidth they don't have to compress the signal. They seem happy with the HD stuff too.

Expanded basic starts at $35. Not bad at all. I pay over $55 for Comcast basic.

Just finished setting up the FIOS and the shit is crazy fast. It is only at 5MB right now I have to call in tonight for the 15MB because the order was bad.

BTW the reason I am using this name or made 2 names is that JJ4short is banned and I don't know if I am banned or if theres something wrong. I didn't get an email about it and I tried to contact SOOPA but hey whatever happens happens.

the FIOS is lit in my town. The verizon website says I'm good to go. I'll order it next month. I'll let them screw up a few other houses first. Plus I'm still on $19.99 from Comcast.

15Mbps down and 2Mbps up for $45/mo with the first month free.
I’m so jealous, I’m still stuck on pos Adelphia that charges us 45 a month since dsl is not available in my area and I only get like 2mb down when its suppose to be 5mb down. Not only is it slow and pricey, it’s very unreliable, it dies like 5+ times a month

Moral to this story: stay away from shitdelphia

Holy shit mang, Ive been thinking about this fiber optic stuff all day since I read the front page of the Wall street Journal!! I could not believe what I was reading. Just to fill some in on some fun facts, Verizon is investing some serious money for this fiber optic upgrade. Right now it costs them $1,490 per home to do, but they hope through more experience they can shave it down to $840 dollars very soon. The speeds are truly sensational. They say thta a 2 hour movie can be downloaded in under a "1" minute!!!

AT+T will be offering this service too very soon. They are still unwinding from the merger with SBC. Now the difference between Verizon and AT+T is that Verizon will bring the fiber optic cable right the the outside wall of your home, and then use standard cable wires to go the rest of the few feet resulting in very minimal loss, vs. AT+T will just be feeding the fiberoptic line to local points in cities and such and then going to individual houses via copper wires losing much more speed!!

Now once all this gets going, I believe that there will be some swwet package combining tv, phone, broadband, and even cell phone voip!! Things are going to be very interesting in the coming 5 years and I cant wait!!

Can you post the results of the vonage speed test?

http://www.vonage.com/help.php?article=497

I think I'm going to order the 15/2 service you have and then switch my phone service to Vonage.

I'm at work and our speeds here are MUCH faster than 15/2.

I'll do the test tonight at home if I can remember.

Stupid question time: can Internet servers serve up content fast enough to take advantage of this super duper speed? At our office we only have a T1, so to download something from our FTP must be like sucking through a straw fro your guys, right? Where are you finding content to keep up with your speed?

Anyone have an answer for my question? What's the use of such a fat pipe when so many corporate sites are stuck at T1 or T3 speeds?

Might be good for bittorrent

I'm going to order the 5/2 package for $35. I don't need a 15Mbit pipe until my kids get active on the net.

I'm more interested in the 2Mbit upload more than anything else.

Their arent many hosts out there on just a T1, if any at all. Most sites are hosted by compaines that have multiple T3's, OC3's etc. The bandwith is out there.

Personally, I will use this for newsgroups mostly. I'll actually end up saving money since I can drop my voice services from Verizon (needed to have it for DSL). The wife and I both have cell phones that work fine in the house. And since I'm prepaying for the year, its 39.95 a month, 1 mo free and no activation or install charge.

I thought Comcast bought out AT&T? Does this mean comcast will do this soon too? I sure hope so, 46 dollars a month for 3/256k down and up respectively sucks.
