I wonder how many people bother to still use a stand-alone mail program. Work is one thing, but for personal accounts it seems like nearly everyone just uses a web interface now days.
I see your point. I hate that too. I have two accounts but I just setup one to forward mail to the other so I don't have to keep checking both. Gmail tags the forwarded mail so you know which account its from.

ONe nice feature of TB3 is that first it indexes your mail for fast searching, but when you search, you have the option of having your search results presented in a time line so that you can click right to the cluster of emails about a topic or to/from a person in a specific period of time.
I use Outlook at home for personal use. But have web base accounts as well. Those are mostly for e-mails just above spam level.

I like outlook/Live Mail better. Thunderbird doesn't use the 3 pane view by default and when you enable it it's not as good as the MS version. Plus it marked all of my 3000+ emails as unread. It just looks and feels dated to me.

I use both, but can't justify purchasing Outlook for a few Gmail addresses I check, along with my ISP address. Been using TB for years and it does a good job.

Serisouly Stogie if you like Outlook but don't want to pay for it, you can get a similar experience from Windows Live Mail, try it out!

It's its replacement. Due to anti-trust reasons MS doesn't include email, photo and video editing software with their OS anymore. It's offered as a standalone download in the Windows Live Essentials Pack. It has more features then the version that was included in Vista. They also did this so they could update these programs faster than once every 3 years like they do with OSes since they aren't tied to an OS release cycle. The current version "wave 3" came out this year and "wave 4" will be out next year.
I'll take a stand-alone program for my personal email over gmail, hotmail or whatever any day of the week. Been using it in that manner for the last 8 years.
Well, that's sorta like Whiskers' testimonial for T-bird!Thanks for the explanation re: Windows [Live] Mail-- I didn't see a discussion on the main MS website pages, which is understandable given the circumstances.

Someone here recommended it to me... stunna i think

whats the word? Thunderbird!
