I explained what you called a "retarded" comment, rather clearly.

ok - this is my last post about this - I was never talking about YOUR phone, obviously I know nothing about YOUR experience with YOUR phone. I said it was a friend's iphone.

Sounds like you got a bad one; go exchange it.
While I have my quirks with the OS/Software I don't have any major hardware issues with my phone.
There is a handful of people who have hardware issues if you read all of the forums, but most people do not. I don't think the build quality is that bad.
Dead pixels are a fact of LCD technology, and production problems happen. I know a lot of people with the phones, I don't know anyone who has had to return it. I've only read about it online. Which isn't surprising, I expect people to complain online...

I am glad the people you know have had good luck.
Mine however, was bad. Besides from the obvious hardware issues I addressed, the poor service I have been getting with sprint and the battery life, which is not limited to my device but the Pres as whole is why I will be returning it. I also know two people with the phone, and although they are not having the same screen problem (shutting off) I am, they are having some other hardware issues. The slide becomes extremely loose and the dead pixels. Coming from a guy who has had ALOT of cell phones, I can say the build quality in this one, IMHO, is sub par.

My friend complained about the slide being loose as well.
I have no issues with the screen, slide, or battery life now that I've turned off GPS and in spite of always running bluetooth. Guess I'm lucky?

Hey Rick! So far so good. Like i mentioned earlier only gripes were data transfer from my treo (only was able to transfer contacts, no aps), having to set up gmail account for wireless backing up of data (calendar, contacts, etc) and lack of USB sync. I'm getting used to the keyboard and the pre is hella small which I like. The Cards feature which allows for multiple apps being open simultaneously (like Windows) is very cool. Interweb is blazing fast compared to Treo. Speakerphone works decent and battery life is good (yesterday I left for work at 7:30 am and when I came home at 8 pm I still had about 75% battery life despite few short calls).
Epocrates not available for pre yet. Do you use epocrates or mobilePDR?

I don't have that problem but some of my texts are not going through. I just hit the little icon in the lower right corner.

Just commenting about the palm pre....I have used it for about two weeks now and would have to say its a really good phone.
Cons: Battery life is horrible and it lags sometimes, but I guess that is all electronic devices after using is alot and putting more software on it. I will be happy once a new battery comes out.

Is it constantly on? How do you turn it off? I've had the pre for 2 days now - LOVE the phone, battery life is not too good but considering that I can't put it down, it's okay.
I think you had the Treo before too, right? I feel like I haven't even had a phone when going from the 700 to the Pre
Any other tips on preserving battery life?

Hey. I'm so glad i'm not lugging around my treo 755 in my front pant pocket like a 2nd schlong. The size of the pre is awesome. Got a couple hard cases and screen protector so i'm good. Still deciding on the touchstone.
Yep, turn light down. Turn off bluetooth and wifi as well.
There is supposed to be a firmware update allowing texts to be forwarded. I got splashID last week which is a godsend, hopefully they don't charge since this app is just the beta.
Evernote kicks ass too. Text, photo, or other memos uploaded via the web to your evernote account so you can store all kinds of info that is maintained even if you lose your phone.
"Where" app worked great when i was in chitown last weekend for a conference. Location is automatically updated so within 10 seconds i was able to identify the closest theater to my hotel showing transformers.
The pre forums are helpful but it's time consuming sorting through all the replies LOL. The synching with gmail is working much smoother, i only have my emails updated to my pre every 6 hours. I disabled the google calendar notifications to my gmail account. I figured out how to load my photos from desktop onto wallpaper.
Did you try the Classic app? I couldn't get my palm desktop app to transfer over to Classic. Plus it's 29.95 after the 7 day trial period. The only 2 apps I really needed from my Treo were splashID and epocrates.
Still bummed I can't use epocrates (prescription drug info) for the pre. I even tried downloading epocrates as an iphone app but it wouldn't work on the pre.

Correct. Did you hear how the pre can be tethered and used as a wireless router?!?! I'm too scared to do anything that will void the warranty hehe but the potential with this new webos system is sick. Can't wait for all the homebrew apps to come out, just gotta be patient.
