AT&T new phone replacement

I finally upgraded my Blackberry curve to a Bold 9700 through AT&T's website, but it had issues with randomly shutting off. I have already had it replaced, but before I return the old one I was wondering if anyone can answer this question.

I was billed one cent for this phone which was what the sale price was on the first one, and was told I would be refunded that huge amount once I return the defective piece. I'm pretty sure I can absorb the loss if I dont return this phone and just keep it for parts etc. But I dont know if I would be charged anything extra if I didnt. Does anyone know?
