PDA/Smartphone

I'm looking for a windows based PDA/smartphone. I'm interested in the Treo 700W. If I get the Treo 700 with Verizon's unlimited data plan, can I surf the net like how I can with my Dell Axim through wifi? I don't really need the wifi. I want to be able to check my emails, AIM, read and post on Acurazine.

I currently have Tmobile and can only view WAP sites with my W800i.

How is Verizon's EV DO in the NYC area? How is the speed. Does Cingular or Tmobile have better? GSM is Edge right?

Should I wait till Cingular or Tmobile carries it?

Also, Buy.com is offering rebates on the Treo 700. I can get it cheaper there. Will it better to get from a Verizon store?

Any other PDA/smarthphones to consider?

It will be similar to your axim, but not as fast.

Tmobile doesnt offer anything as fast as Verizon. All they have is Edge, which is a fast version of GSM and you have to have a Edge enabled phone.

Tmobile will be coming out with two smartphone in a few days:

I'm using my Treo 700 right now to reply... while I've been totally satisfied... I wouldn't exactly call it "broad band speed" like they claim in the ads... but don't get me wrong... itls a lot faster than Samsung's i700 (not EV DO). Before buying the Treo 700 I was using my Dell Axim v50x with wifi... I have wireless internet at home and believe it or not... at times... the Treo 700's faster! Just keep in mind... there are limitations to what you can download... I do miss the big 3.75" screen on the Axim... but otherwise I love it... now... I, actually don't mind the lines at the bank or grocery stores...

Have you used the XV6700 before? How is it compared to the Treo 700?

I wonder. Wi-fi is offered optionally as a SD card plug-in on the 700w. So you can't use a SD memory card at the same time?

Anyway, I was to buy a smartphone but just bought an Axim instead. There are not mature enough products to my taste. See you in 2 yrs.

I personally prefer the XV6700 over the 700. I find it more user friendly and the keyboard is easier to use...

If I do get it, it'll probably be a 1 year plan.

For those who have the option to switch providers, Sprint's unlimited data plan costs about half of Verizon's unlimited data plan.

i have the xv6700 with the unlimited data plan (verizon). I couldn't be happier.

It was between the 700w and the xv6700 for me.

Wifi
Bigger Screen
ease of typing in crap were the sellers for me on the xv6700.

different strokes for different folks though.

...work AND home, I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have a PDA to keep organized... and since I don't even have a land line... you can say it's also for home... AND since I'm addicted to sites like AZ.com... I have something to do while waiting at the bank, grocery line or waiting for my food at a restaurant...

Any differences between getting it at a Verizon store or online from Palm.com, Amazon, or Buy.com? Besides getting it faster.

If I get online and there are problems, can I go to a Verizon store to exchange?

....I remember one time I bought a Sprint phone from Circuit City (back when they were carrying all carriers), I had problems with a phone... well... a month later... they C.C. decided to drop everybody, but Verizon... so I had no choice but to go to a Sprint store... they were able to figure out that I didn't buy it from them... so they didn't do anything about my problem... so, Verizon may pull the same thing on you if you have problems...

...on that note, I do pay the extra... I think it's like $5 or $6 a month for insurance... I'm thinking that'll cover any problems...
