Outlook 2010

Anyone have Outlook 2010 installed that can help me test something?

I am seeing odd behavior on two machines with Outlook 2010 and was wondering if someone else could do a simple process to see if they can replicate.

1. Open Outlook 2010

2. In the search bar above your inbox messages, type a search you know will result in MORE THAN ONE search hits that are NOT in the inbox directly (should be in subfolders)

3. Click once on the any of the items shown as resulting from the search EXCEPT the very first one so that it shows in the preview pane.

4. Hover your pointer over the various email addresses in the header (To, CC, Your address, etc) for a few seconds and see if the window flickers, goes blank for a second and then puts you into the very first result item in the search result.

I have replicated this on two machines with Outlook 2010 installs and it happens exactly the same... Hweird.

I would post a screen video of it, but there really is no way to sanitize it enough to prevent showing things I can't show...

Create a .pst with test email messages and create a positive search result such that only those pop up?

I don't have Outlook 2010 but tried to reproduce this in Outlook 2013 and it was fine. I did have the 2010 before and don't ever recall seeing this happen to me on any PC I used.

On that train of thought... I'm wondering if your .pst is corrupt... have you tried repairing?

Are the search results in your Inbox (within subfolders)? Have you tried search results in a archive .pst and do they exhibit the same symptom?

Just throwing out ideas that I would try if I were in your shoes

I don;t have an archive PST, just the active Inbox.

The problem ONLY occurs when i hover over a hyperlinked (blue) email address in the TO or CC field of the preview pane, and ONLY when I am viewing the results of a search..

It's as though there is some issue with the Outlook popup (your mini contact) that appears when you hover over a name in the header of a search result...

OK, another Outlook question...

Someone sends me an email with an address or a company name in it.

I want to be able to highlight the text, right click and choose "search with Google."

Is there a way?

Cut and paste into a google page is so 20th century...

Me neither. I wonder if I could change it if my job didn't have admin control.

use this one

Change Default Search Provider in MS Office 2013 Suite - Guiding Tech

I had done it before and had to search for the right page

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\C ommon\General]
"SearchProviderURI"="http://www.google.com/search?q="
"SearchProviderName"="Google"

cut and past that in to a *.reg file and import.

weird. I made the changes and restarted outlook and had it there.
Are you getting the settings from a server?

No, standalone machine. Also, I made the change in the 14.0 folder as I don;t have a 15.0 folder ([HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\General])

Here is what I see when I highlight text in a message and choose "lookup"

Tell me about it...

If I work on a message long enough for a draft to be auto-saved, I am unable to attach anything to it! I have to start over and get it done in 3 minutes or less!

Yea it sounds totally messed up.
you might have to deinstall office and clean up all traces and reinstall

or you could just throw the machine out and buy a new one...

Based on how many licenses I hold and how infrequently I update them, I may simply start using Office 365.

Anyone regret moving to the cloud/app based Office from the standalone desktop version?
