OS X Leopard install problems
I'm installing Leopard on 2 brand new macs an iMac and a Macbook right now and both are have two different problems. First the imac installed leopard fine and when I restarted I was going through the tranfer wizard to transfer files from the old powerbook g4 running 10.3 to the new iMac. I plug in the firewire cable and power adaptor as I was told and restarted the powerbook and held down the "T" key as I was doing so. Then the firewire logo pop up on the powerbook like it was supposed to but nothing happens on the iMac. The iMac still says it's waiting on the powerbook to be restarted even though it already has and I have no other option. This is the main work computer with alot of info on it and I'd love for the transfer to work. Does anyone know any workarounds?
Second the macbook. I inserted the leopard cd and held down the C key and booted up just as I had done with the iMac then it says looking for 10.4 so that it can install the upgrade. It's not finding 10.4 on a brand new macbook, even though it found it on the new iMac. So now I'm going through the process of installing tiger and then I'll have to install leopard afterwards. Weird. At first when I stuck in the Tiger install cd it was saying it wouldn't install on the macbook which was really bothering me but then I had an epiphany. It was saying that because I was using the install disk that came with the iMac and not the Macbook, everything's working fine now. but for a minute there...

OK now the "Macintosh HD" on the Macbook isn't mounted and I can't chose it as the destination for Tiger and when I go into disk utility and try to mount it nothing is happening!!
OH god now the iMac has turned it self off and it won't turn back on!! It's like it went to sleep and no pressing of keys on the keyboard or press or even holding the power button will turn it back on.
I feel a very slight breeze of air coming from the iMac so it is on just the screen is black and I can't get it to come on. I mean am I missing something that's staring me right in the face!! I don't get it!!

WHen I try to repair the macbook HD using disk utility I get an error that says "invalid node structure volume check failed". I'm not entirely sure what that means. Should I just try to make a new partition and try and install tiger on that? Will iLife be installed with the tiger disk that came with the macbook?

I ended up just unplugging the iMac from the wall and pluggin it back in ( which I really didn't want to do). I then had to go through the setup assistant again and this time I just skipped over the migration assistant part and everything worked fine. but I'd love for the migration assistant to work. Next is plugging in the new 500gb external HD and getting time machine up and running. Leopard looks nice so far. I can't believe they stuck with BSOD computer for Windows computers.

This is a brand new laptop from the apple store. Bought today!! It works with leopard.
Oh and did I say the new iMac already has a dead pixel. Will the apple store return an iMac over one dead pixel?

It's a 20 inch iMac. It's probably going back to the Apple store anyways cause of the dead pixel.
Ok so I got Tiger to install on the macbook. Something happened to the volume and it couldn't be repaired so I had to erase it and reinstall tiger before I can install leopard.

They've updated their site to state that every new mac ships with leopard. Although at the bottom of the MacBook Pro page it still states Tiger comes with the laptop.
Anyway, I can't wait to order my MacBook Pro.
Those of you that have installed it, what do you think so far?

I spoke with a rep earliar this week that said they will be finishing up all their current orders then sometime after that begin accepting orders for machines with Leopard.
Guess I'll wait a week or two and see what happens.

OK so tiger finally got installed and I was able to transfer files from the old laptop to the new. Now I'm trying install Leopard over top of it and it's not working (surprise surprise). For some reason the Macbook is saying the Leopard disc is damaged and it can't install so I have to use the one that came with the iMac. but it also wouldn't let me eject it since it set the DVD as the default startup disc. Luckily I remembered that holding down the option key gives me the option to choose which drive I want to boot from. What's funny is Leopard was about half way through it's install when it failed so some of the changes had been made. So when I booted up "Tiger" so I could eject the disc it came up with the translucent menu bar from Leopard!! I thought that was cool but nothing else worked.

Ao far I've managed to get Leopard on my MBP and I'm now in the process of putting it on an unsupported Mac.
I think this thread is specifically to try and stir the Mac vs. Windows pot.
lol

^ You mentioned that it wasn't supported. Did it install anyway or did you need to do something to it?

It installed on my 24" imac at like 4am when I got home from work. Finally getting to play with it now. I'll install it in on my powerbook later.
So, far. I DISLIKE the loss of the sidebar in iCal. I used it a lot, and now its a pain in ass to get to all that info. I will play with it more to try and see if its still there and im not finding it just yet.
Voice quality over ichat is MUCH IMPROVED. Sounds great.
Screen Sharing is AWESOME. AMAZING technology. Now, when my mom has a question I can open screen sharing and "take over" her computer and show her what she needs to do.
Thats it so far. Doesnt seem like much in the way of a lot of stuff, but when start digging there is a TON.

^ Thanks astro ...
I am a cheapo ... but I *should* support a product since I will be using it a lot (ie every time I start my computer). Once I go over to the 'States, I'll pick up a copy at the Apple Store. Unless ... I can buy it cheaper from the Apple Store (Canada) with my educational discount.

How is the Mail application in 10.5? I tired it in 10.3 but didn't like it. I've been on Thunderbird since. It would be nice to use an application that Spotlight could search.
I let Google Desktop scan my boatload of Outlook mail at work. What a great time saver.
