Same shit happened to my moms Dell and it said we used her serial too many times (I reformat PC's in the house about 1 time a year just to clean up) if you want it I can send it to you tonight...About to head out. I think if you paid for it you should be able to use it as many times as you want

Ok so I got a simple question in which I really hope there is an answer. I want to MOVE but NOT COPY a file from one folder to another in OS X, how do I do it? By default if you drag n drop a file in OS X it copies and doesn't MOVE the file which leaves me with a duplicate in the original location which I have to delete. If I cmd + X a file it stills copies it, if I select the file I want and choose Edit from the Menu bar the cut option is greyed out while and the copy is active!! I really don't get this, why MUST I copy instead of MOVE a file.

By default if you go from one disk to another it will copy. Hold down the apple button to move.

there is a leopard bug that can cause you to lose both sides of the data when moving files. J suggest copying and simply manually deleting when youre done until apple addresses the bug.

I know Quicktime Pro requires an activation code and I've used that on many machines and I've never had a problem with it.

Does anyone know of a way or a hack to get the eject button on the keyboard to eject a disc when you're using windows on the MacBook?
it's annoying having to open up My Computer to eject a disc all the time.

I also found my first issue with Windows running on my MacBook Pro.
Currently the resolution on XP is set to 1440 x 900. I tried setting it to 1920 x 1200 just to see what it would look like.
Well, it changed the resolution, but it didn't map it properly to the size of the screen, so I had to scroll to get to the other portions of the screen.
Anyone know why it did this? Is there a way to fix it so that it matches the resolution to the size of the screen?
The reason I wanted to see why the 1920 x 1200 would work is just because it is the aspect same ratio as the 1440 x 900.

and no there's no way to make 1920x1200 screen fit into 1440x900 screen. That's like asking a man with a size 40 waist to fit into size 32 jeans, it ain't happening.

yeah if the screen resolution is smaller it can do that. Like if you took an 800x600 resolution and put it on your 1440x900 screen it would look out of focus and annoying. but you can't make a bigger one into a smaller screen. Everytime I've tried to put a bigger resolution on a monitor it would either just go black and display nothing, or might give a warning saying the resolution isn't supported by the monitor, or it might display it while only showing 1440 of the 1920 pixels and 900 of the 1200 pixels.

I found a weird issue with my clock in OSX.
If I do not have a network connection available and I switch between windows and OSX, OSX no longer remembers the time and it puts in some arbitrary time (not sure where it is getting it).
Any of you seen that problem?
When I have a network connection it's no biggie because it syncs it up.

Apple just updated their site for the MacBook Pros. You can now get them with a 2.6 Core 2 duo (mine came with the 2.4), and you can get a 200GB 7200rpm drive (mine is a 160GB drive).

Well I got an answer last night about why the time is not set properly when using XP and Boot Camp.
It's because Boot Camp can't handle it, probably because XP and OSX set time information differently.
So, you have to manually set your time EVERYTIME you switch operating systems if you do NOT have an internet connection to synchronize the time.

So those of you running Boot Camp and XP, until this is fixed, just remember to change your time.
I hope they can come up with a workaround or a fix for this.

In the Apple thread you mentioned that you had tried network time syncing. How did you have this set up? Was it with the NET TIME /SETSNTP command?
What's really wierd about this is that when an XP machine is a member of a Windows domain, the time it recieves from the Windows network environment is Universal Time which the machine then locally offsets according to the configured time zone. Even if you login locally without a network connection, the time shouldn't drift by more than a minute or two from the last synced value.
I was thinking that maybe if you manually configured time sync with the NET TIME command, then XP's time behavior might be similar to a domain membership config.
What's really wierd about this is that when an XP machine is a member of a Windows domain, the time it recieves from the Windows network environment is Universal Time which the machine then locally offsets according to the configured time zone. Even if you login locally without a network connection, the time shouldn't drift by more than a minute or two from the last synced value.

Even still, if I configured the NET TIME, I don't know if it changes the format of the time based on Universal Time.

Anyone else experiencing the Mail crash issue?
Apple Mail simply does not start up. It will load, I will see my email for 5 seconds or so, then it crashes. No one on the Apple discussion forums or mac rumors has found a solution. Supposedly has to do with its IMAP function (which I use for my GMail).

HAHA!! well they caused more problems with the .1 update. I just installed the update and now when I try to open safari it says you can't use safari with this version of OS X. I'm running (or was) safari 3.0.5.

Well technically it wasn't me on the phone but that's what I said. Actually I'd would've just restored from a time machine backup instead of doing an archive and install. Would've been much easier.
