New Sprint Phones (kensteele)

Ok, sorry ken I gotta be a pain again.

Its now time for my parents to look to upgrade their phones.

Their contract is up again and they are going to change to one of the newer plans that just came out, but i told them to wait and see what new phones are coming from sprint.

So, i think I saw a new sanyo, but is anything else new? Or how soon will new phones be getting released?

My parents like simple shit, if they had the razr my dad would get that (he loves the size) So, they dont need pda phones or anything fancy. They both currently have sanyo 8300s.

Thanks sir. I know you can only say so much.

The Sanyo 8300 is a very nice phone for today. But shortly there will be nicer phones out...as you might know, Sprint has announced high-speed broadband-like services to be launched shortly and that will amount to a fair number of new handsets...all before Christmas. Two of these are going to be awesome but two things...you gotta wait a little bit and they might be somewhat pricey.

If you like simple but capable, the 8300 is cool. If you want to see the next generation of Sprint phones that use EVDO service, stay tuned.

No problem. I wish I could be more helpful but I'm usable to provide more useful details. But if you saw me in person, you might see me using one of the new, not out yet, phones. Then I would be happy to let you "see" it.

Seems like the Sanyo's are the best out of all the Sprint phones... I love my Sanyo 8200

The sanyos are known to get the best reception. I loved my 5300. the need/want for the treo grew too strong.

does EVDO = multimedia?? Such as new phones w/ streaming video and broadcast?
I take it these phones will be out by xmas which means price drops by spring time ?

thanks for the info Ken, I can't wait to replace my i330.

My PPC-6700 is EVDO compatible and EVDO is everything you have read AND more. I would venture to say EVDO rivals the low-end DSL offerings.

I also have the MM-Sanyo 5600. Not EVDO, but IMHO a great phone. Takes nice pictures for a mobile phone and the interface is simple.

Good luck.

Sprint is always first with completing the whole network while Verizon is usually the first to turn on a city or two. You may not know this but EVDO on Sprint has been already turned on all over...just not announced yet.

Not necessarily. You can use multimedia services like Sprint TV today on non-EVDO phones like the Sanyo 8300. It's just not as smooth. The higher speeds from EVDO and the newer phones will allow the video to look a lot better and smoothers...and there will be add'l multimedia stuff along with EVDO. Both will stream but EVDO will do it better.

EVDO + Nextel means great phones and prices for everyone.

Glad you like the 6700. I agree with you, the EVDO on that device is awesome...I use it everyday.

No EVDO in Memphis, but I have picked it up in Philadelphia, Detroit and Wash DC.

EVDO > EDGE

Things have changed at Sprint for the better for me so I am inclined to stay awhile, despite being in Kansas. However, I would love to move to California, north or south, if they would have me out there.

There are no plans to introduce a Motorola phone for Sprint this year.

I have had the Sanyo 8200 for quite some time and I love it. Reception is outstanding and the phone has held up to a lot of abuse

66502 is showing me manhattan and junction city nearest locations. do we have primary service in your city or is that an affiliate, which is another company fronting sprint service?

for phones, i suggest you stick with the sanyos. there is a model 4930 that you might like. coming shortly.

Stay with Sprint until at least the new year, then make up your mind.
