Why not just download if from MS tomorrow and they'll give you the option to burn an ISO. Did you pay more for physical media?

It'll run better and faster than windows 7. If it'll run on an ARM chip with 1gb of ram it can run on pretty much anything. Your issue maybe with drivers though. I think most 7 drivers will work fine, if you can find them for that hardware.

iHeartRadio app is pretty suite when it's docked on the side taking up just a corner of the screen. Though I hate the radio...

I'm liking these metro apps on the desktop, I've always hated skype cause it's so annoying when running in the background or when you try to quit it but not the metro version.

I also like the Hulu Plus and Netflix metro apps along with Trackage, My History Digest, Internet Connectivity, and Save the Date.

One of our managers that organizes the MCA threw the ISOs up for Pro and Enterprise on our network share.

Put Pro in a VM on my iMac.

this OS is crap. I was going to give it the benefit of the doubt and that it was still a WIP from the Consumer Preview, but this is pretty terrible.

1. The little tutorial they promised at the beginning doesnt do crap. It just says to move your cursor to the corner of the screen and the start menu will appear. Doesnt tell you anything else.

2. Maps app = completely useless. Even with location discovery or a hard coded starting address, you cant look up the nearest starbucks or store by name. It doesnt even try. iOS 6 Maps terrible? try this.

3. Ads in the weather app. Nuff said. I dont want ads served in a corporate environment. People will complain to me that it's unprofessional and i honestly agree. This better be disabled by GPO.

4. Built in Mail app. i THINK i have more than one mail account added (gmail and microsoft). I dont know how to get to the other mailbox, or add a second account for that matter.

probably more but this is just within 15 minutes of use.

maybe not, but all my complaints have to do with the functionality of the OS itself. It's not unstable or crashing.

I posted the thing about maps on the official microsoft fb. Someone responded and confirmed that from his location it returned a starbucks 26 hours away when the closest was 5 minutes. My search returned zero. there's a starbucks right on campus where I work. In fact there are 2 within a mile. This is the same if i search for Target or anything else by name. Starbucks was just the most common thing i could think of in the area.

People complained about apple mapgate, this is worse.

1. They mentioned a more thorough tutorial today during their Windows 8 Launch Keynote that will be coming with new PCs.

2. I've hardly used maps so I can't verify how it compares with Google but it was able to find the one restaurant that I couldn't find in Apple Maps.

3. It took me a while to notice that ad in weather app, it is all the way at the end furthest away from most important info, most will never know it's there. But yes there should be a way to disable it.

4. You seem to be stuck in a learning curve, let me help. All metro apps have their settings and search functionality in the charms bar. You're not used to it at first but it really makes sense. In every app you go to the same place to search, share, print, and change settings. Every metro app, every time, it's not different from app to app like desktop apps have been for decades. You want to search for an email in the email app? Charms bar. You want to search for a new app in the windows store? Charms bar. You want to change settings in the weather app? Charms bar. You want to change settings on the Start Screen? Charms bar. It's really very logical.

Your 2nd email account is in the lower left corner, you know like where calendar, contacts, tasks are in Outlook. Also make sure you've gone to the windows store and gotten all the updates, they've added some features and fixed bugs for all the built-in apps and the updates are in the windows store.

Hmmm $40 to upgrade to win8 pro?

Maybe I will just get it and install when the kinks/bugs are worked out.

^that's a limited time deal. I've been using this for months, I don't see any real bugs, seems about as stable as Windows 7 when it came out. Might be some stability issueson the new ARM version but the Intel version is pretty rock solid IMO.

To ease the move to Windows 8 every new PC and copy of windows 8 will come with a simple how-to. It's offered the first time you sign on to your PC.
- Stephen Sinofsky 10/25/2012

I didn't see anything when I logged in for the first time but maybe that's because I didn't get a retail copy.

yeah much to my chagrin i found all the settings for the respective app in the same area, Mail included. Like a phone.

But yeah, what i only saw was an extremely short "guide" telling you to mouse to the corner while the desktop was being prepared. Maybe they left manufacturers to input their own training videos. Using what I assume is RTM Professional.

What I mean is buy it, download it but not install right away. I can do that right?

And I've got some time to decide

I wonder if MSFT will nix Stardock compatibility in a future Windows update. Sucks they killed the registry hack.

Haven't really played with Win8 since release preview earlier this year. If I upgrade to Win 8, I think Stardock will be a must.

Looks like apps are starting to show up in the store. Team Viewer Touch, BoA, NYT, WSJ, Fox News, Google. Not bad for the first day. The Windows Store is launching with more apps than any other app store when it first launched.

^I know. They don't have to come up with concepts. They just all have to be rewritten for metro.

I expect the Windows app store will grow fairly quickly.

i take my maps comment back. After updating it, it works like it should and searches for things.

kind of still disappointed such a terrible app shipped with the OS.

currently importing Win 8 installation files into my MDT server. Gonna see how easy/difficult it is to customize/deploy. I probably want to take out all the social media crap by default from the start menu.

Finally got my key for media center. FYI, you only get one key per email addy, that key only works on one PC and the key must be entered by Feb 1, 2013.
