Mac OS X Snow Leopard
you have to reinstall everything. a clean install erases everything on your drive. I don't think you really need that disc it just got some utilities on it. Of course I haven't used one of those since the mac classic days so I don't know for sure.
I can't get my ipod touch to restore. I tried upgrading from 3.0 to 3.1 in Itunes 9 and it seems to have bricked my ipod. When I go into recovery mode, it goes through the motions but then comes to Error 21

The error 21 info I found online relates to 10.5.6.
I am running SL.
Any thoughts?

nvm. The recovery worked fine on my Windows 7 machine. It seems that it was an SL issue.

To run a clean install, users can boot from the Snow Leopard disc by holding down “C” during startup. From there, you can use Disk Utility to format your target drive and perform a fresh install.

Finally got a chance to install SL.

Couple things just wanted to share...
1) If you plan on doing a wipe of your hard drive, set aside lots of time. For
and giggles I did a 7 pass wipe of my hard drive. It said it only needed 5 hrs to complete, but I think it took about 7.2) The first time I installed SL after doing a clean install, it reported that SL could not complete the installation properly. This was after it already reported that it had completed the installation.
This message was reported after I clicked the restart screen from the successful installation screen. So I performed the installation again, this time didn't get any error at the end.Anyway, all up and running now, but now I have the task of getting all my applications installed and configuring everything again. Fun times.
Otherwise, I really can't tell the difference in either computers. 10.6 is noticeable faster on the new MB though.
Or you could create another partition on your drive, install SL on that. then use the migration assistant to transfer over files and programs from you leopard partition and then once everythings good delete you leopard partition and extend your SL one. I'd trust the migration assistant more than Time machine at transferring files and apps, etc. That's what it's designed for.
And the drama continues...
Man, fuck Snow Leopard, this damn OS is pissing me off.
Now my battery cannot even hold a charge and says "Service Battery" in my battery indicator. My battery is fairly new at 74 cycles. It randomly shuts off at 50%, too.
Glad I'm not the only one: http://discussions.apple.com/thread....39186&tstart=0
Apple better address this shit fast. I didn't get a new battery only for it to be zapped from a new OS.

I have that same message on mine, you gotta take your computer in. I bet you hadn't ever noticed that in your system profiler that the battery status was "check battery" before you did the upgrade.
The reason I say this is because for the last year my MBP has been reporting "check battery" status in system profiler, but I never had a chance to take it into the apple store. And after i did the upgrade to SL, the "Service Battery" alert was displayed in the power meter (this alert is a new feature of SL). I think many times people don't know that there's a problem until it gets really bad. Unfortunately in your case it just happened to be when you upgraded.
Get a new batter under warranty if you have the apple care plan, or buy a new one.
FYI, my battery was reporting "check battery" long ago at around 70 or 80 cycle counts as well.
They are sony batteries after all.
