installing apache on Windows

I am trying to install apache, PHP, and mysql on my new Windows XP box.

I got Apache to configure correctly, so when I goto the localhost page, it shows "If you can see this, it means that the installation of the Apache web server software on this system was successful. You may now add content to this directory and replace this page."

I did everything to install PHP, however, it won't show any of the files, they all come across as 404 not found. Any ideas?

you still have to let apache know how it should handle PHP. have you edit the conf file for apache to handle php yet? if you have, then restart apache.

if that doesn't work and you're just gonna use this as a test environment, then i'd suggest installing PHP using the exe package. and download the zip package if you need the extensions

If you want to use MySQL 5.0 for windows, the install is very very clean and easy. If you want MySQL 4.x, the install is easy, but you need to configure a few things manually. Depending on which version of PHP you installed, you might need to customize PHP to access MySQL. PHP 5 no longer includes support for MySQL out of the box, you have to enable it, where as php 4.4.x works with MySQL 4.x with very little issue or configuration.
