Question Regarding Having A Number Port'd Over

...has anyone had it done? Here's the thing... this week I'm going to call Verizon and have them port my number over from Sprint... I'm worry about the smoothness of the transition. And also... how will the "speed" be, in terms of the "EV" of the internet/browser?

...anyone?

We port over numbers all the time (at work). Takes about 2-3 days.

a number port should take on average no more then 1 hour....the longest it should take is 24 hours....

you will be given a temp number so you will not be without a phone.

I believe federal law mandates it take no more than 24hrs for the transition to be completed. I ported from t-mobile to verizon and it was done in 20minutes.

Also, if your contract has not expired, do not port it over, my co-worker did this and it automatically cancelled the one plan and he had to pay the early termination fee from Sprint.

Its possible that it takes longer for us because we have SLA's at work.

Had my number ported from sprint to verizon about 2 years ago and it was when porting just came out. They guy told me it would take 2 days and I would call on the new phone and receive on my old one . Luckily the changeover only took about 5 hours so it wasn't too bad. They have come a long way though. A freind just ported his the other day and it was done before he left the store

werd. i got my number ported over from tmobile to cingular, and it took like less than 2 hours. i remember back in the day when i started up with tmobile, i wanted to port over my number i had from sprint, but back then (~2003) it was new and they said it would take like a week to port over the number, so we decided not to.
