I haven't been keeping up with new video cards since I built my computer years ago, but I think your going to need more RAM if you play those shooter games. I have 512... and my game is choppy (could be my video card, but I doubt it)

fx5500 or any geforce fx 5xxx card is pretty shitty and fairly old. you could build a significantly better gaming machine for not much more then what that guy is charging you for essentially a 2 year old machine

if you want a good set up, the best thing to do is to buy your components your self and go from there. Other peoples ideas of a good set up may not be what you need. what are you wanting to do with the comp? what type of games etc?

No computer purchase yet?

Those two examples seem high to me. I would spend a bit more than that on a bit better specs just to have a tiny bit bigger window of obsolesence.

The video card I have that works great is the GeForce 6600GT on PCI Express. Not too expensive and works on all the current games.

AMD's 64 chipset is great. It seems getting an AMD64 3500 setup is pretty affordable.

Just read up on computers in PC Gamer and ask at the local computer shop, just don't impulse buy. You can get an idea of prices at newegg.com and pricewatch.com. Build example PCs @ Alienware, CyberPowerInc, iBuyPower.

Now are you playing CS1.6 CZ or CS:S because depending on which your playing depends on what setup ur gonna want. Your gonna want something decent because games are so ever changing requirements. If your gonna play CS Source then your gonna want to go with a higer end card. At least a 5900, 6600 NVidia or X600, X800 ATI. Your gonna need at least a 3000 proc too and 1 GB of ram for those applications

Double the RAM to a GIG, and maybe a bigger HD. I think that graphics card may need an upgrade too.

So effectively your paying $500 for the case, mobo, DC Rom drives and processor. So its about even, Its not really a bargin, but not a complete rip off either. Plus its always good to have spare parts anyway.

I perfer Athlon64 processors for games, I just built one a couple of months ago. I think I made a mistake by going with Socket 754, but it was my first build, I may end up building a new one before the year's out.

the graphics card is the most important thing that needs to be upgraded, 512 is fine if your just running a game. after you get a decent vid card, then i woudl think about ram
