Question Computer Problems

I was clearing up some old programs and the startup menu and I encountered some problems, I was hoping you guys could help me out.

1. Somehow I disabled the welcome screen. It now just comes up with the menu like in old windows for sign in. I went to change it back and it says that welcome screen is enabled but it still doesnt work.

2. What is a .manifest file? I just found one and it doesn't sound great.

3. Under program files I have a folder called xerox with a folder inside called nwwia. It won't allow me to delete it saying that programs are currently using it, even if I have no programs running.

4. Is there any way to permanantly remove items from the startup menu? It still lists some programs that aren't even on my computer anymore. Do I just leave it to start in diagnostic mode everytime?

Thanks.

if you do a system restore you can at least get back your old settings & start over.

1. Go to the control pannel and then user accounts. Then click "change the way users log on or off". Other than that, i dunno....

2. The following files/directories in the META-INF directory are recognized and interpreted by the
Java 2 Platform to configure applications, extensions, class loaders and services:

* MANIFEST.MF

3. Boot in safe mode and delete the folder and any registry entries under xerox.

4. just right click and say "remove from list" or "delete"

1) No idea
2) more info - what is the path ?
3) Just leave it - it aint bothering you is it ?
(related to "Windows Image Acquisition") if its locked by OS then it's deep inside
windoz's registry - don't fuck with it - just leave it.
4) go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu and delete any shortcuts accordingly
