So I'm sure many of you atwork have the same problem...I have 2 questions.

1. I know a lot of you at work use AOL's IM or ICQ to 'chat' with friends and whatnot. But its also really embarrassing if you're chatting with your boss and all of a sudden an IM pops on your desktop from your friend asking about the girl you were with last night. Or when you get a message, the thing flashes annoying on your desktop. Is there a utility that hides the AOL IM window? I've heard of a software that makes the chat window look like an excel spreadsheet but I'm not sure if that program exists.

2. If option 1 doesn't exist, is there away to have new IM windows automatically minimize to your to the task bar? It happens sometimes with my IM but I'm not sure why it does this.

I have not used these in a while and I don't know what kind of utilities exest for these, but if I were you I'd go check out downloads in the www.cnet.com anything related to AIM or ICQ... I bet you'll find plenty to use

Well, you have to reconfigure your mainframe, and set up a Unix server on your backend, then reset the proxy to...uh, I mean, I have no idea. Actually, I know what you mean. I have people e-mail me to my business address if they want to chat and then launch AIM.

 

I Don't know about AIM or other IM but I got ICQ and you can turn off "pop up" screen and sound also by clicking on a few box in preference. When someone IM you, a popup screen will come on and there should be a check box where it says "pop up", just uncheck it. It might not be visible depending on your preference settings. ICQ got so many damn option.

Haha Polyman. I found a program to cut a hole out of your programs. In other words it can crop a program so you only see a small portion of it so you could crop off the border to your IM window so that it doesn't really look like a new program or something it hides in excel or word pretty easily that way. If any of you workers would like it, let me know and I'll send it to you.

there's a utility called "hide-it" that hides windows w/ certain titles.. u can also try odigo (www.odigo.com) .. it combines aim, yahoo chat and icq into one and has a lot of options

not sure about how to avoid new messages but if you are already talking to someone and they type something you can avoid seeing the flashing by minimizing/hiding the taskbar on the bottom while at work. one option.
