Best place to buy a Compaq iPaq?

My wife wants one of these things for her birthday, and I'm trying to find a good deal on one... it doesn't necessarily have to be new.

Anyone have any guidance for me?

Nice birthday gift. Make sure to get the newest model, 3800 series and check out the ACL.com of iPaqs here.

At the present time, I was leaning toward buying a refurbished iPaq 3670... what would be the major difference between it and a 3800 series. The 3800 looks to have 32mb of rom, as opposed to 16, but the 64mb ram is the same, and most of the applications seem to be the same...

just curious for some input. I'm trying to decide if its worth an extra 200-300 bucks.

I think it is worth the extra $$$. The 3800 has more memory, a Secure Digital slot (I have a 128mb storage card), the display is a lot nicer, and it runs Pocket PC 2002. I got rid of my 3600 for the 3800. You don't have to be a serious, serious PPC user to appreciate the difference but if you're a newbie to handhelds, not much of a difference.

Also the speaker and a few other minor changes tops off the redesign.

This is our first one, and to tell you the truth, we're not exactly sure what were going to use it for.

Probably address book, calendar stuff. Perhaps some minor Word documents and such.

What's the difference between the two screens? From the specs I can find, they appear to be the same.

Duh... ooops. I was looking at the 3700. My bad. I guess that's a big difference, but I wonder if it's worth the extra cash.

I would think it would only make a difference if you were looking at photos.

The new HP Jornada's (568's) were ranked better than the new IPaq's. Not that it matters since HP will own them faily soon anyways.

Check your local Target stores... I've read that they have the iPaq 3765 on clearance for $279... not sure which target locations and what states, but some still have them at $399... but it's worth a try...

Good luck!
