By the way, the "cheaper" iPhone is actually not what it seems...
Original 8gb iphone with 450 min, unlim data, 200 sms, at launch: $600-$100 credit +24x$60 = $1940
Original 8gb iphone with 450 min, unlim data, 200 sms, after price drop: $400 +24x$60 = $1840
3G iphone 8gb with 450 min, unlim data, 200 sms: $200 + 24x$70 + 24x$5 = $2000
So the "cheaper" 3g iphone actually costs $160 extra.

the 200sms that don't come with the 3G unlimited data, unless they announce another custom iphone plan, which from what i read, it doesn't sound like it. but i guess you never know.

I had to up my text message plan to 400 (on T-mob) and I don't even have an iPhone, yet. Some people talk alot, some people text lot, some people don't do either, and they clearly have no friends

AT&T reveals that Apple will no longer receive the revenue sharing from each users plans. It was highly publicized that AT&T paid Apple a portion of its monthly recurring service charges for each iPhone user. Under the new agreement, there is no revenue sharing. AT&T is presumably directing that money towards the $200 subsidy for the iPhone.

My brother-in-law might give me his first gen Iphone and he'll buy a 3g one. If I don't get a data plan and just use wifi for the internet, then I'm really not missing much? I don't care for GPS.
I dont think so.. I was going to do the same thing if a friend was going to sell me thier 1g iphone dirt cheap. I still have a year and change till my plan with ATT ends and felt like it would still be worth it...

I think there will still a market for 1st gen iPhone because they were easily unlocked. It may be a little harder with the 3G.

I read the dev team already unlocked an early version of the 2.0 update but getting around the AT&T contract just to get the new 3G phones will cause problems

Probably has more resale value when unlocked, too.

I keep thinking about waiting for the 32gb, but i guess with my 16gb touch and a 16gb 3G I'll have 32gb already

I saw "system requirements" on the auction on ebay say mac os..
