Apple: iPod News and Discussion Thread
So Jobs is saying that the iPod Touch is a great gaming device and they wanted to get the price down so everyone could have it. This, in lieu of adding a camera. Apple fans aren't buying it at all.
I find this interesting because usually, fans will repeat the official talking points ad nauseum until it becomes a perceived truth. I wonder if Steve Jobs was trying to create a perception that the Touch is a great gaming platform as a preemptive strike against Zune HD's potential to play XBox games. Sure, the Zune HD isn't out and we don't know what its gaming capabilities are yet, but surely Zune's strongest competitor would have some insider information.
If there's any truth to that, it's amazing that Apple is trying to rebrand what should be their premier music player (iPhone being classified as a phone, Classic and Nano being commodity players) as a gaming device. Moreso, it's shocking that the fanbase is not accepting that vision.
This is going to be an interesting holiday season.

I honestly don't see a need to have camera on the ipod touch. If you own an ipod touch, you use it for music and games, and you use your cellphone and/or your digi cam for pics. Don't get me wrong, I love taking pictures, but there is no need for a third device with image capabilities when you already have two.
Did you get yourself some props on Gizmodo for this tip?

Another feature that Zune has had for years that iTunes finally gets is the ability monitor folders and automatically add music when they're put in a folder. I think it only works with one folder though.

So apparently this iPhone 3.1 update disables Exchange support for the earlier iPhone if Exchange requires device encryption. Exchange is still working for my so I guess my exchange account isn't set up to require device encryption. I guess the 3G and 2G have been pretending to have device encryption this whole and now in 3.1 they aren't and now can't access exchange because of this. For now the only workaround is to disable the need for device encryption on your exchange server or upgrade to a 3gs.

no. he didn't say he wanted it for a video camera. If he wants an MP3 player with with an FM radio and a video camera then yes get the iPod but that's not what he said.
I hate to say this, but the Nike+ thing is crap. It's never accurate at all. When I had it, there was a particular route I used to run on a regular basis. Anyway, I'd calibrate it, run the route and it would tell me when I reached the halfway point. Then, a couple days later, I'd run that route again and it would tell me the halfway point at a different spot. I'd calibrate it again and it'd be another different spot
Anyway, for running, I use one if those GPS apps on my iPhone instead, it's hella more
accurate.
I just don't understand why a device like the iPhone that's got 3G, wifi, Bluetooth, why can't it do FM radio?!? I'd pay money fir that app.
