Apple: iPhone News and Discussion Thread
I just tried google maps on my wife's bimmer...meh.
And of course because Im sure of all the programming involved it doesn't interact fully with the car, as in it doesn't send the directions to the gauge cluster.

Does Apple maps have that integration already? If so, it's only a matter of time
It does not show in the cluster or HUD. Honda/Acura in the near future.
The voice directions will play over the car speakers, at least it does with Honda and Acura.
And here comes the deluge of YouTube reviews from your favorite tech people. LOL.... :-)
Everybody seems to be settling into a mantra of, "It's not for current owners of the iPhone X."
That's probably generally true, but if you are a T-Mobile user with an iPhone X, the XS is a little more attractive than it'd be to Verizon and AT&T users.
The four antennae and 4X4 MIMO will boost T-Mobile, you'll have Band 71 and gigabit LTE, and all this suddenly boosts T-Mobile performance.
Or maybe I'm just trying to make excuses for spending money again.

Picked up the XS Max this morning (space grey). Damn, this thing is big. Feels almost exactly the same as the X, just enormous.
If you can, in-store pickup is the way to go.

Samsung Employee: "We have our own custom Android interface!"
Customer: "So, it's still crap software. Rats"
Never settle for Sammy. Go Pixel or go iPhone.

The screen is stunning. It's not a big departure from iPhone X, but the size really just highlights the beauty of a display.
And I have had OLED screens on android devices before but never like this. No blue shift, no other weirdness. The XS Max screen is incredible.

My friends went to Disney tonight to play with the camera. They were at cars land with all the neon at night. They shot their X and Xs.
The Xs handles the variance in contrast and highlights so much better with less noise and a touch sharper.

I'll be okay with it as long as I'm wearing shorts or regular business attire. However, as used to happen with my old 7 Plus, I think I can predict some minor issues when hiking in jeans later in the season.
Maybe this gives me the excuse I need to buy a Watch 4 with LTE.

Way too many detours into inside roads, occasionally taking way longer than it would have otherwise.
Sometimes I finish going through a section that I'm familiar with, and me and my passengers ask "wtf, why didn't it take us through X?"
Google maps is still the quickest one for me. Apple has the nicest UI with the lane specification and raise to wake preview. Why can't they just combine into one?

Anyone else notice that screen timeout settings aren't working correctly on iOS 12? On my iPhone XS Max I set screen timeout to 1 minute because the default 30s is too short. But 1min still turns off at 30s, I have to set it to 2 min if I want it to timeout at 1 minute. The 30s and 1min option both timeout at 30s, and 2min turns off at 1min. I'm on the 12.1 Beta, maybe that's why, but I think it was doing it before installing that beta.
