Verizon:
"Our relationship with Apple has developed over the last two years. In 2008 we started talking about bringing the iPhone to a CDMA network. We spent a year testing."
"Late in 2010 we started offering the iPad... today, we are extremely gratified to announce that the iPhone 4 will be available early next month."

No it's not, it's still pure speculation. Just like it's always been.
For some reason the NYT likes to come out every two weeks with more 'proof,' but it's still a load of horseshit until the day comes where a) Steve announces it, or b) it shows up on store shelves.
You will see a CDMA Apple product at some point. That's a given. But it's not a fact that it's coming to Verizon, and it's not a fact that it will show up in 2011 - especially the beginning.

11:24AM From us: What changes if any have been made to the antenna.
Tim: We had to make changes to work on the CDMA network -- it's going to work great.
Dan: We do not see a problem with that. (We're assuming he means the antenna)
11:23AM Q: Is the CDMA iPhone exclusive to Verizon?
Tim: It's a multi-year, non exclusive deal.
Q: Why didn't you go the LTE route?
Tim: Two reasons -- the first gen LTW chipsets force design changes we wouldn't make. And Verizon customers told us they want the iPhone now. I can't tell you the number of times we've been asked 'when will it work on Verizon.'
11:25AM Question from Ars Technica: what happens when you're on a call and need to use data?
Dan: Same as a CDMA device.
So... you don't.

Verizon iPhone 4 will have 3G mobile hotspot
January 11, 2011 11:16 by Sean Hollister
It'll probably be subject to an additional fee as usual, but Verizon and Apple have just announced that the new CDMA iPhone 4 will act as a mobile 3G hotspot for up to five devices.

I've been remarkably quiet and well-behaved.
And Apple can kiss my big, diecast rear.

I will gladly pay 10X the amount for an alternate to Apple.
Oh wait...I don't have to.

They are trying to mask the lack of voice/data simultaneous abilities with the mobile hotspot feature.
Yeah, its a nice feature....but voice/data at the same time is key. I will not go back to the Edge iphone days where you get voicemails because you were surfing the net. Or you are talking to someone and need to look something, and you cant because you are still on the phone.
step backwards imo

I stated it wasn't a fact. Which it wasn't. They had been making predictions like that for two years with rolling targets. Now that it's here, they can stop throwing dates out there in hopes that it would stick.
Congrats to them, they were right. It only took them five times.

No I agree totally about the media's BS. It's just when you posted and the dates stuck is when you got it wrong. I thought the timing was funny and it wasn't a shot at you. I think we respect each other based on our discussions in other threads especially the sports ones.

Plus I'm often on the phone and need to look something up while talking to the person. Or send a text to someone else while talking to a person. Or I need to be able to take calls, and missing potential work calls because I was looking something up on safari, no.
Those were the frustrating days of the OG iphone. I would never voluntarily go back to that.

IIRC Our Bell wireless network up here is CDMA and has had the iPhone available for some time.
EDIT: Bell launched a GSM network back in 09.

Call doesnt have to interrupt you on 3g. You can simply ignore it.

although i'm not switching to verizon yet, personally don't have any problem with CDMA's limitation of no simultaneous voice and data
it's up to the usage of each individuals really
i'm usually on the road when i'm surfing on iphone.. and i'm too lazy to look up anything while talking and on the road.. other times, i'm usually in front of computer, so that's fine

When I think about it...it was actually kinda smart...
All At&t iphone 4 adopters are on a 2 year contract. There are people who want to jump over to Verizon...but paying to get out your contract is a bitch. There is no REAL incentive to leave At&t with the exact same phone on verizon that isnt AS capable as our current phone at&t.
Soooo, the phone the LTE model will most likely debut sometime near when all the initial 2 year contracts are over.
Could be wrong in my thoughts on that...but when I will admit when my contract is up...I will be taking into account cost/plans/features on the iphone vs. network carrier.
But at the same time, I've had no real issue with At&T...but I'll always look if there is competition.
