well. if you consider consumer's perspective and their usage, it may be an issue.
if you look at it from technological standard's perspective, it's a limitation or lack of feature, not a bug, hence the word "fix" doesn't fit in there.
okay, i need to go back to work lol

I'm still waiting for that phone that'll make that "leap"
We'll see. AT&T is very good in my area, and I'd argue that at times it's faster than some Verizon phones (on 3G). iOS definitely seems to be slightly faster than Android, especially in the keyboard department. I guess I need to take a step back and reconsider, since I did make a step up from a "dumb phone" to the first iPhone, which despite its shortcomings was quite a leap. Same thing with the 3GS I have now.... maybe I'm setting my standards too high.
But I'm not convinced yet. I still don't trust Apple and AT&T. Comparing with jailbroken and non-jailbroken iPhone 4s, there have been several times with/without bumper cases where they get poor/no reception (not like mine is much better) or I'm surfing away on 3G when their phones can't even get a connection.
Even in San Jose (http://www.slashgear.com/wp-content/...100223-600.jpg) where AT&T is reputedly faster/more reliable than the other carriers, there are times where my phone won't be able to even make/receive a call, yet other people in the same car as me with Verizon have no problems whatsoever. There's also the occasional phantom voicemail/text that I'll get a day after it was actually sent. So I can imagine what it would be like in one of those areas where AT&T is considered horrible, when it's already considered great where I live. I don't travel internationally much so I'm indifferent to the lack of a SIM card
I don't think battery technology has caught up yet with the amount of power these devices require. But sealing the battery away for the purpose of form factor is a
to me. Then again, I've always been function > form
WP7 seems crippled out of the gate, with features to come over time. We'll see. My history with Apple hasn't been too great, and being on Verizon isn't quite enough to make the jump. I've probably used data while on a call enough times to count on one hand, so that's not a dealbreaker. My contract is up in June, hopefully Apple, Android and Windows roll out everything they've got and have the bugs ironed out too.

A phone that is interesting is the Moto Atrix as it works as a computer as well and the Playstation Sony phone. Both run Android but the Moto under ATT (not sure where PS phone will go) is probably prone to local issues as well. Isn't it well documented that the NorCal area and NY have issues?

That phone is the direction technology is headed. Laptops and personal computers are going to be phased out for all in one devices as you see with the Matrix. You, and all of us, will most likely have a similar device in the future.
Give it time, all carriers will have it or their own version of it, probably before 2012.
And yes, ATT is pretty terrible in NY, but that said, I only had problems with the iPhone on ATT, never had any problems on my ATT Blackberry.

PBS came out with a free app. You can watch some of their shows on the phone. I saw American Masters John Lennon on there which should be excellent and Captain Picard playing MacBeth. Just 30 second clips for the kids but hopefully they add more programming.

WOW.... thank you for mentioning the Atrix. It's stuff like that that gives geeks like me e-boners.
Very interested to see where this will go. This is kinda like when phones started having internet, or more specifically high-speed internet.
Hmm.... not to be such a nitpicky bastard (even though I am) but while he was showing Angry Birds on the webtop(?) it seemed to have a slightly sluggish framerate. Could possibly be cause I assume it's still in development, but either way it looks very promising. I think a ~4" screen is about the ideal size for a smartphone to remain practical. Beyond that.... this opens up a world of possibilities.
Is a dual-core processor in a smartphone a first or something? Never heard of that.

The Atrix, Bionic, and the Optimus 2X are among the choices.

The sizzle in the Steak
New code found within the first iOS 4.3 beta suggests Apple is planning to incorporate the POWERVR SGX543 GPU from Imagination Technologies into an upcoming product or products. Mac Rumors reports that the SGX543 is said to deliver seven million more polygons per second and double the fillrate of the older SGX535 that is found in Apple’s A4 chip. In addition, the new GPU offers support for the Apple-backed OpenCL specification, which allows applications to tap unused GPU processing power for general computing tasks, as well as support for multi-core configurations. Notably, a rumor from late 2009—the chip itself was announced that January—suggested that Sony was interested in using the chip as the graphics processor for its second-generation PSP handheld gaming console, suggesting that Apple and Sony are on a similar path when it comes to portable gaming.

Is there a way to manually get SHSH blobs for iOS versions? my dad's 3Gs is JB on 4.1 but he wants to update to 4.2.1 and do the untethered JB. However Cydia only has SHSH blobs for 4.1 and SHSH blobs for 4.2b3 are required for the untethered JB to work. Is there a way to make SHSH blobs for 4.2b3 or any other iOS version for that matter?

I guess it appears I'm too late to get SHSH blobs for him......

I still think it is. I never said it won't be dual core, I said I doubt it. And Engadget's fuzzy rumors don't convince me otherwise. Apple is late to the hardware game every year. I'd also wager there is about a 30% difference in customer knowledge about dual core between iOS and Android. Seems silly for them to invest in that at this point, especially after releasing a new chip last year.
Either way, even if the iphone does get it, everyone will act like it's the most amazing thing to ever happen to technology, even though it will have been out for 6 months already.

I just did the untethered JB for 4.2.1 on my iPhone and iPad last night. On my iPhone I used the aptbackup utility and it only halfway worked. While it restored all my JB apps like mywi,my3g, multiflow, etc it deleted all my apps I had from the app store!

i'm very very biased here.. but i've always hated motorola since startac and never really liked android motorolas either
all android phones to me is just different variations of hardware.. and a bit of customization.. if it was just about hardware with android, i'd rather go with LG 2x optimus than atrix
but then.. a lot of iphone users who aren't moving to android is because of the OS.
since i give more credits on OS than hardware itself, to answer your question, i do still feel that way

i guess you can't take half joke and had to start the OS battle now (i said i'm just playing around here when i made that statement)
if you had to ask me what part of iOS i like more than android, (and i assume you know tech stuff quite well like a lot of people in this thread), then i can see you finding reasons to disagree with me. hence i won't say anything
android is good. never bashed on it. i just like iOS better for now. let's end it there.
