WTF! Do I have to post everything!?!? Anyways, some site gets these repair parts for a new iPhone and while the parts look similar to the iphone 4 there definitely some differences but a lot of thing are identical. So they put up a youtube video comparing and contrasting the differences between the new iphone parts and the iphone 4 parts. Well that video just got pulled from youtube due to a copyright claim from Apple. If you didn't watch the video I'm sure it got rehosted somewhere else.

So it's either a CDMA iphone 4 or the iphone 5. My guess is CDMA iphone 4 since I don't think parts for an iphone 5 would be in circulation yet. And with AT&T finally announcing a shit ton of Android phones at CES when for the past few years they've avoided Android like the plague, probably since they didn't want to piss off steve it seems to me that's another clue that the exclusivity agreement is over very soon.

I saw the extra piece in the middle of what would be the 5 likely to fix the antenna issue. I'll probably go straight to 5 from a 3GS when I upgrade this year. Or maybe it'll be 4GS.

Do you think they would really release a CDMA iPhone 4 now if we think the iPhone 5 is coming this summer? I suspect it's a mid-cycle refresh to fix the antenna.

I don't think iPhone 5 is coming this year. They said they'll release the white iPhone 4 this summer so I'm not sure they'd be coming out with a new model this quick.

If Apple didn't come out with the iPhone 5 this year it would greatly hurt them, esp with the pace that Android based phones have ramped up. You can bet that Apple will release the next gen iPhone sometime after June like they always have. They wouldn't hold back a new gen just because they didn't release the alternate color version last year. If they did, that would be on their part. Then again, jobs does run the show.

Maybe iPhone 5 is ready for Verizon with 4G LTE.
I could then see AT&T getting iPhone 5 later in the year.

Where did you hear this summer? The latest news says they straight up cancelled the white one.

And it's pretty much impossible for iPhone 5 to not be released this year.

No way Verizon will be getting a 4G LTE iPhone.

Not going to happen.

Verizon is going to announce 4G smart phones at CES. It would be lame if the iPhone only supports 3G while the Droids support 4G.

There has to be a new(er) iPhone this year. They only release one phone a year while other manufacturers release several. ATT is getting 20 new Android phones this year including HTC Inspire with a 4.3 inch screen. Steve will think of some sort of innovation to get everyone all hard.

Just read this on Mac Rumors

CNET yesterday reported that it has received information from a source claiming that Apple has limited vacation time for its retail store employees over the next two months, ostensibly in order to handle crowds from a new product presumed to be the CDMA iPhone widely expected to come to Verizon. The source also indicates that Apple appears to be planning a media event for next Tuesday, January 11th, in order to introduce the device, although the window of time for an announcement of such a media event is already becoming extremely short.
During this weekend's 2011 CES, he says, Apple will steal some thunder by announcing a product-launch event on Tuesday, January 11. (That's 1/11/11, if you're into numerology.) At that event, the company will finally announce the long-awaited Verizon iPhone. (Cue "Hallelujah" chorus.)

Alas, this is all just hearsay, and while a lot of it seems reasonable--likely, even--there's still no official word from either Apple or Verizon.

My tipster, citing a close relative who works high up the Apple food chain, said the new iPhone will be CDMA-based (no surprise there) and ship in February. He also noted that Apple was limiting staff vacation time for January and February, ostensibly to handle a sharp increase in sales and service traffic.

We received a similar tip a few days ago claiming a January 11th announcement for the Verizon iPhone with availability set for February, although we have been unable to confirm its accuracy. With the rumored event just five days away, time is running short for Apple to notify members of the media in time to make travel arrangements, and we are thus somewhat skeptical of the claim at this point. Apple typically offers approximately one-week notice regarding its media events.

In support of CNET's claims regarding restrictions on Apple retail sore employee vacations, AppleInsider reports that it has heard similar rumblings, with the vacation blackout apparently spanning the last week of January and the first two weeks of February.
People familiar with the company's retail plans say Apple has issued a "blackout" period spanning three weeks, during which retail employees without seniority will not be allowed vacation time. That blackout period is said to begin the last week of January and continue into the first half of February.

Apple is also said to have retained many of its temporary holiday employees for its retail stores in anticipation of continuing strong business in their stores.

The reason for Apple's vacation blackout is not yet officially known, although the Verizon iPhone is likely the strongest candidate with a second-generation iPad also registering as a possibility.

I didn't realize they cancelled it.

It's been a month for me with the iphone on AT&T, I have 0 complaints. My service is fine. I've dropped 4-5 calls, usually in elevators or parking structures.

More Verizon news

Boy Genius Report claims to have heard that the vacation blackout being imposed on Apple's retail store employees has been narrowed down to February 3rd-6th in several regions of the United Sates, suggesting that a major launch is scheduled for that weekend.
BGR has confirmed with a source close to Apple that the company has blacked out employee vacation requests between February 3rd and February 6th - Thursday through Sunday. The four-day vacation freeze has been confirmed to be in effect in several regions in the United States. A recent report suggested the vacation black-out would cover a period of three weeks beginning in late January and extending into February, which still could be true in some regions.

^Apple's the one blocking vacations, not Verizon. If it were the iPad2 then I don't think ATT or Verizon will get as many units as Apple retail.

Verizon Iphone January 11th Announcement

Gizmodo was not invited, hence that seems to be the final hint that this has to do with Apple/Verizon

shouldn't be the new ipad..
i highly doubt apple would let the carrier announce their new products first

i'm betting higher on bunch of LTE phones announced at CES is main reason for the event
but if it turns out to be the CDMA iphone (iphone 4 definitely), also makes sense that apple is not holding their own event since it's not really a new product

No. It's the iPhone. Verizon already had a press event at CES to announce all the LTE phones. Why would they have another one the next week to say the samething.

There's a reason Apple is not at CES. They don't want their announcements being lost in the chaos of CES. They want all the attention. Hence why this is set for another day not during CES

Makes sense.

I thought manufacturer announced the phones, not the carrier (ie verizon)
at least that's what i was thinking. and so, verizon wanted to go into details on LTE phones and MiFi and all those new gadgets in more details and pricing and what not

maybe i'm wrong

Sweet, let it open up to Verizon...let everyone leave AT&T...then the network will open up and I'll be fine

PS: I wouldnt be surprised if this is only the announcement of the iphone COMING to Verizon...but but doubt it to happen ASAP. My guess is they are announcing it...and it'll come this summer as a gen 5 version to keep the models the same across the board.

That would make better sense from Apple's side of things in developing one model to work across different carries. I know they will have to issue a different version that works on Verizon vs ATT, but the features of the phone will at least be the same regardless which carrier your with. Jobs wouldn't want to have a dumbed down phone on one network vs another.

I'll believe it when it's actually announced.

I really don't see it being the iPhone.
I see that kind of announcement as being a job for Steve Jobs.

I hear you but think about it, This announcement is not really about the hardware, it has MORE to do with the network. No need for Jobs to be at the forefront since we already know about the hardware.

I wouldn't be surprised if Apple surprises everyone and comes out with versions for Sprint and T-Mobile this year. Android is taking over fast, and Apple may just have to open up to ALL carrieres to keep the iPhone relevant in the long run.
