Okay, got my phone yesterday. I ordered it through Apple on 6/29, but to be fair it did actually arrive about 1 week earlier than the expected ship date they listed.
Loving it so far. It's a bit different coming from a blackberry, and the bb was probably a better bet for my work stuff, but this is much more fun.
So far zero issues with the death grip (and I am a lefty), or the proximity sensor. Maybe I got a later build, maybe I'm lucky, whatever, I won't complain.
What's the deal with the free bumper? I really want to get one to keep the scratches minimized, but don't want to go through the hassle of getting it reimbursed if they will send me a free one soon.

It can still be troublesome for righties to cause your finger wrap around the device and if one is on the death spot then that will effect signal strength.

Im with SG81..
im right handed and it makes no sense to me that a left handed person would hold and call with the left...
your dominant hand should be the one tapping the screen, much like writing on a tablet.. you hold with the left and write with your dominant hand if you're a righty...
i would bet that 90% of right handed people hold the phone with the left hand when playing games, using applications or typing in a hurry..

No, I think I should be fine. My cousin had the same thing, and apparently when you refresh your contract or change it Tmobile recognizes it and will block data coming to the phone, and thats why he doesn't get internet anymore. Thats what I think anyway. And there was no charge. I've called tmobile a lot and they say that if I'm not signed up for data there will be no charges at all.

nice one for those who are on iphone 4 and looking for tethering before jb becomes available for them (99 cents)

it's pulled out now
anyways.. i say one of these are true
1) iOS4 has memory leak (kinda like windows)
2) 3GS is not recommended to use iOS4
3) iOS4 jailbroken for 3GS is creating unknown issues
i think #3 is most likely...
yea.. my 3GS running 3.0 had ZERO problems... now i'm running jailbroken iOS4 and this thing turns into POS quite often (ie apps crashing and stuff)
gosh i can't wait until i get my white iphone 4 goddammit

I have no crashing issues with my jailbroken 3GS on iOS4. I routinely kill apps with sbsettings or I get major lagging. If there was one thing I could remove from iOS4 it would be multitasking. Backgrounder is way better, and so was Kirikae (which wasn't compatible with iOS4)
When I begin to experience lag I swipe for sbsettings and my phone is creeping by at <10MB of available memory. Sure enough I see the apps I recently used being left suspended, leeching memory away from apps I'm trying to use.

^ i mentioned it few days back as well
apple's implementation for multitask (or app freezer should i call?) sucks
it just trashes memory and not the right way
i think they should limit their multitasking apps to user-selective ones (kinda like they have for push notification)

Afaik. If the app doesn't support multi tasking. Then it works just like before iOS 4 in that it just exits when you press home.
The task manager just only shows your recently opened apps, making it a bit easier to switch between apps.
IMO thou, it should just show apps that are actually running in the background or suspended.
The list gets waaaaaaay too long. Like right now. I've got 9 pages of recently opened apps. It would be much faster to go home and go directly to the app, than double tapping home and swiping 9 pages.

Yohan are the apps that are crashing updated for iOS4?
I've got some that crash but that's because they haven't been updated.

today, camera was crashing
i hope it's iOS4.0 tested......? lol
i seriously think it's the OS and the memory management..
it's not just certain app that crashes, but rather, once something crash, everything else seems to have its own problems and stuff

No problems really with 4.0 on my 3GS until I went 4.0.1 where I had to pull the SIM. The multitasking is okay and I like that it remembers where you left off. However, the ones that kill battery like Trapster really hurt if not turned off.

"" comex gave some good news today on Twitter when he confirmed that he was not going to wait for iOS 4.1 to release an updated version to Spirit, the jailbreak tool that will work with iOS 4 and iOS 4.0.1.
The right thing to do would be to save your SHSH blobs with Firmware Umbrella to insure you can always downgrade to a previous iOS in the future. It is the right thing to do, but it is certainly not mandatory.
With PlanetBeing and MuscleNerd being almost done on their iPhone 4 unlock, it now makes sense to release Spirit.
Excited? ""

why do 3GS owners hate the 4 so much?
everyone i know that hasnt upgraded just says how pointless the new features are.. and talks trash about the antenna...
this is my first iphone, but i would think there would be some sort brand loyalty instead of generation hatred...

I had a 3GS. And after using the 4 for almost a month. There is no way in hell I'll go back to a 3GS. I just love the 4 so much

If Apple hadn't dropped the price for the 3GS I would've went with a 4. I just didn't see the need to pay $100 more for the features. I don't hate on it but am concerned about the antenna. It's like when I know someone that has my generation Accord V6, I ask him which tranny theyre on.

I thought about that, but the screen has two areas on the top that are screwed up. Almost like 2 large groups of dead pixels.. I would have to get the screen fixed for it to be worth anything?

Sell it at a discount. Better than it collecting dust in your drawer.
As soon as I can unlock my 3G S I'm going to put android on the 2G. Fiddle with it. And remove it. And sell the unlocked 2G.

You know one thing I've noticed about the cases for the 4. They make it look really really huge and bulky.
Hopefully better ones come out soon.
One thing I do like about the bumpers are the buttons. So easy to press. On the speck candy shell I had on my 3G S. Made the buttons harder to push.

I have a 3G. Can't wait to buy a hand-me-down and upgrade to a 3GS
Then after an "iPhone 5" comes out, I'll buy a hand-me-down IP4. That's how I roll

Yea it wasn't much of an issue to me. But when you compare it to no case and the buttons on the bumper. It's a harder push.
Not really a big deal.

I kind of want to get one for shits and giggles.
Oh, Steve -- you should've known better. You show up and remove a laptop from a manila envelope, and Earth's most creative go and create a case fashioned out of one. You go and suggest that Eminem could "come out with a band-aid that goes over the corner" of your controversial iPhone 4, and well... this happens. You could wait for a free case, or you could buy six of these Antenna-aids for five bucks. The choice is obvious.

did you put iOS4 on her phone? I would get 3.1.2 instead IMO. I tried iOS4 on my phone and that thing lagged like crazy. My phone is so much smoother now. Better than when I had 3.0 also. iOS4 could never keep up with my typing when I text. I literally am sometimes a couple words ahead of it. 3.1.2, no problem. And the ipod app would take forever to open up, and when you first open it up and press play, it again takes some time to play the damn song. That shit got annoying quickly. I think I had iOS4 for like 5 days. Its not worth it on the 3G which only gives you folders, spell check, and zoom feature on the camera.
