'abc player' updated to support 3g streaming and landscape orientation
monday may 03, 2010 11:40 pm est
written by eric slivka
earlier today, we noted that abc had updated its abc player application for the ipad to support video streaming over 3g networks and that the new version had been submitted to apple for review.
Apple certainly didn't take long to look it over, however, as the updated version is now live in the app store. In addition to 3g streaming, the new version brings a number of other improvements, notably including support for landscape orientation in all screens within the application.
This update includes improvements that you have asked for including:
- 3g streaming (requires a 3g capable device)
- landscape orientation support for all screens
- support for the ipad's orientation lock
- updated player controls that are more responsive
- improved display of parental ratings
- numerous other bug fixes and stability enhancements
in order to support 3g streaming, abc appears to have been required to add a lower-quality video stream for the system to default to when network performance demands it. In general, ipad users are experiencing lower quality video when streaming via 3g than via wi-fi, with different applications offering varying amounts of visible degradation on cellular networks. Youtube in particular has been cited as offering much poorer quality streams over 3g.

Giz did an article on the benefits of unlocking the iPad
http://gizmodo.com/5530906/jailbreak...yline=true&s=i
I'm now listening to pandora while typing this message in safari on my iPad
Also in the comments they talk about this app called miwi that can turn the iPad 3G in to a mobile hot spot. The iPad 3G would be a sick hot spot cause of it's huge battery it probably do better than a normal hot spot. Supposedly this miwi can create wifi networks which is something pdanet cant do it can only join networks which you have tbo create on a laptop.

My review still stands. https://acurazine.com/forums/showpos...postcount=1493
I like that if I want to check something real quick I can whip this out (pardon me while I whip this out! ) and check my email in a few seconds and not have to whip out my laptop, it's just faster and more convenient. For casual browsing it's easier and more portable than my MBP but it's still not an essential item. I do find that I don't use my iPhone much anymore for internet, email, calendar or apps. It's pretty much just a phone to me now. I don't really regret getting the wifi only version but 3G would be nice but not worth the additional data plan, now that I've jb'd my iPhone I'll try getting a good tethering solution going for it.
The multitasking jailbreak makes this thing much more useful and my wifi connectivity issues and safari's page reloading problems are still annoying as fuck!

Ok, Im converted on the Jailbreak. I like it...Now I can multitask, have folders, themes and most importantly use it as a wifi hot spot...

I'm sure multitasking will be implemented quite well plus there's new APIs for multitasking that you can't use now in the hacked version. I bet the new API's will bring lower memory usage compared to the hacked version in some cases.

Plus it's optimized for better for your battery. Which is important to me.
It's already 10:20am and I'm at 67% left
all radios are off and I switch to edge at my desk cause it's the only signal I can get in the cave I work in.

Clamcase Laptop-Like Shell for the iPad
Thursday May 06, 2010 04:02 AM EST
Written by arn
Clamcase is likely the first of many integrated keyboard case designs for the iPad. The Clamcase promises a protective shell, integrated bluetooth keyboard and stand for the iPad. The iPad, itself, is housed in the top segment that can open up and fold backward.
The images look like they may just be renders than actual product photos, however, so its hard to say how well the case will work in practice. The case is claimed to be available sometime later this year.

this morning after unplugging all I didnwas check stocks w/ the cnbc app for 2 minutes. Then intue train ride I checked email and listed to my iPod the entire 30 min ride plus 15 min walk to work.
Wifi is off and Bluetooth is off. Brightness is probably around 25%.
I came into work with 90% left.
After some browsing via edge I'm at 74%
I do feel it isn't as good as when the phone was new.
Maybe I should do a full restore to clean up all the settings.

When the hell is Steve jobs going to come out with their own version of java and flash. It's kind of annoying after the first day of use.

I agree with Steve that you are better off without them on these things. JVM is a hog and so is flash. I feel like my Blackberry would be so much faster if it wasn't running Java.

i think because of the popularity of the iDevices are why websites are switching over.
if they were able to run flash, im sure the websites wouldnt have changed a thing.

Still annoying that some sites support html5 and others still like flash. I want my iPad to work with all websites now. :wishful thinking:

^you don't HAVE to be a developer you just have to pay Apple to be part of the developer program
I'm sure you can find it on those torrents you love so much.

Get yourself an Apple dev account
4.0 is coming along really nicely. It makes the iPhone feel like a mini iPad. Faster, more responsive (in most instances) and battery life is much improved. Folders are freaking amazing. I've gone from 8 full pages of apps, to less than a page & a half. The app switcher is also clutch, a lot less time spent scrolling through pages looking for apps.
I haven't made anything that's been submitted to Apple yet....
I jb'd the iPad, it's pretty nice being able to download apps right to it, since the App Store doesn't work on it in Canada yet.
I haven't really installed anything other than Install0us though. Can't really think of much else it really needs. I don't even play music with it, so my usual #1 install, Scrobbl isn't even on yet.
