Any led/Lcd tv expert here?
My housemate's uncle is trying to get rid of his toshiba 42 inch led tv, it has internet and wifi built in and blah blah....anyway i checked amazon the retail is close to $1000 and he listed in cl for $500 and he said if I want it he can sell it to me for $475. He told me there is nothing wrong with it, he is moving and wants a bigger tv that's why he wants to get rid of it....
It's not I don't trust him, but can someone tell me if there is anyway to check the condition of a tv? He has it for about a year and the limited warranty is about to expire, square trade don't offer warranty on used item unless is from eBay....I think this is a good deal in terms of the price, but hoping someone can chime in some thoughts.....thanks in advance.

Btw it's on sale on amazon now for $700...
Is there any way to see how many hours has the tv been on since new?

^you will have to access the system service menu in order to get that information. Toshiba is a top tier maker so their sets are decent... and for $475 I would buy it in an instant....

I just bought Vizio 42" 120hz LCD 3D TV for $400.
Granted the Toshiba is LED. I would spring for the LG.
$450 cash, and your uncle has a deal

TVs are all the same until you start talking about $2K and more for a TV.
P.S. I needed a nothing crazy TV for my office, this was it. Games looks awesome. 3D is comparable to Samsung's quality. Can't complain. Except it is effen slow to boot up, like 20 seconds. But it's ok...

I'd rather buy a used TV that has a good picture/sound over a TV that has been "fixed". Ask him if it's ever been repaired.

Vizio is made by Sony, they are a good product. Personally if your uncle is willing to work with you on the price, I'd buy his

the overexplainer
In 2009 Sony sued Vizio.
there was an issue a few years ago with their service ports frying their TVs. These ports happened to look like USB ports and even merely touching it (not plugging it in) with another connector permanently fried the TV. I believe they now come plugged/covered from the factory now.
Google search on service ports. link

Vizio is a privately held producer of consumer electronics, based in Irvine, California, USA. It was founded in October 2002 as V Inc.[2] Vizio's major partner in the consumer electronics arena is AmTran Technology, a Taiwan-based OEM/ODM that manufactures more than half of the televisions sold by Vizio[3] and owns a 23% stake in the company.[3][4] Vizio also manufactures its products in Mexico and China under agreements with ODM assemblers in those countries.[5]
