Just for the heck of it, i made a cardboard oppo n1.
No problem today, in my front jeans pocket, which is very surprising to me. It's 171mm long.
So the Mega (168mm) is actually quite doable - too bad it's such a downgrade in specs.
The experia Z, at 180mm is still a bit obnoxious.
I actually can't wait until unbreakable displays come out (Samsung is rumored to come out with a 'Galaxy F' series) so I can go caseless.

I thought that F series would just have a curved display (non-flexible)

How do you guys avoid the nasty battery drain when in low signal areas. I go to class at night for 3 hours with barely a bar. I can receive/send texts but data is not happening. Barely touching my phone my battery plummets but I want to leave the phone on. WIFI and GPS are already off. Note 2 on 4.1.2 for reference. Thanks

Maybe you should turn off your data? That will def eat a lot less battery if you're not searching for LTE or whatever signal your phone looks for.

That's what I do on my fruit phone. Turn off data. Saves a ton of battery, specially at Vegas.

I noticed on a recent trip that putting my Note 2 in airplane mode while up in the air saved a ton of battery. Turning off data does wonders.
Oh, and I have a backup battery too for those times when I or the wife's fruit phone need it....they are pretty cheap now if you search ($20-30 for 4000-5000mAh).

Easily fits in a pocket. I have these two, plus a 13,500 mAh Cellovo brick that will charge my S4 4-5 times on a single charge. Love it:

I guess for now I can just turn off Wifi, Data (settings/data usage uncheck mobile data box), and GPS manually. Texts did still come in.

Top Android device manufacturers reportedly rigging performance test scores
http://www.theverge.com/2013/10/3/47...nchmark-scores
Smartphone speed tests are the latest home to a scandal over unscrupulous performance enhancers. According to AnandTech, Samsung, HTC, LG, and Asus have all altered some of their devices so that they will perform unusually well during popular benchmarks, which are often included alongside in-depth device reviews. Aside from Motorola and Apple, AnandTech writes that "literally every single [device manufacturer]" they work with has shipped or is currently shipping a phone that inflates its scores. Despite the broad statement, AnandTech only lists a few specific names, and it also appears to exclude Nexus and Windows Phone devices.
The revelation shouldn't mean much to consumers: benchmarks are by-and-large an arbitrary measurement of raw performance, and not a measurement of how well a phone actually runs in day-to-day use. But they're nonetheless a tool that reviewers and some shoppers use when assessing a phone's capabilities, and it seems that these manufacturers may be hoping to give themselves an edge. That practice reportedly isn't present across the board, however. While on certain test, such as AnTuTu, AnandTech found that every company listed was inflating its scores, it found that on other tests, such as Geekbench 3, only a single device appeared to be inflating.
Phone manufacturers' methods of doing this appear to be fairly simple: the operating system detects when a specific benchmark is running, and then tells the device's processor to immediately begin performing at its top speed. Overall, AnandTech says that it doesn't even add up to much. It saw a 0 to 5 percent improvement on CPU speed, and for devices that also altered GPU speeds, no higher than a 10 percent improvement on those benchmarks. Benchmark manufacturers are reportedly now looking to outsmart devices — many by simply renaming their apps — but buyers will have to take their scores with an even larger helping of salt than usual until it's clear that these tests can't be bested.

^^^ yeah I read that about Samsung....not sure if that was the case with LG as well
Samsung seems to have bloated the numbers by almost 20% but even without that, it was better than the Lg G2 LOL

I always wanted a 'if signal is really bad/gone, just go into airplane mode for X minutes, and then recheck' setting.

There is a $2.99 app called tasker that does the same thing:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d....taskerm&hl=en
Allows you to create rules and actions based on time, location, etc.
Chod beat me to it!

A few things for kitkat were rumored. Native printing, white notification bars and a few new things for gallery, which would allow you to save your pic as a pdf, or to a certain size or something. Also white notification icons.

That didn't work. Turned off everything and in 3 hours it went from 40% to the high teens. It's not my battery because last night it went from low teens to like 8% without charging in like 5 hours.

When this happens, check the battery usage stats, see if it shows an app using up a good percentage of your battery. Then also click on the graph, is your phone awake a lot even when your screen is not on?

Also, check your nodez.

My GS3's battery life is still shitty even with a factory reset (although I got most of my apps back)
My android OS is taking way too much power, but I dont know what it is! Gonna start slowly eliminating things.

I think there is some issue with the settings....
the wifey has the S4 (so the gallery settings is the same) and it loads just fine

Then I say unless you need the stylus or the battery life this thing gives (assuming it still gives great battery life) get the N5!!

Also I unchecked sync from the toggles and now my batter is idling perfectly. Before my idles would still go down pretty steeply, almost as much as when it was in use. Now its basically flat compared to that.
So my next step to see if its a sync problem with which one of my things or just all in general

I shoot people
that video has got to be some kind of isolated issue with HIS Note 3... there's no f-ing way that all Note 3's are like that... We would have heard about it by now (other than this video)
