All-in-one printer, scanner and copier???

OK, my Epson printer LOVES ink. I don't even print in color and for some reason the color ink gets used. And yes, I've check all the settings...

I find myself more and more running out making copies of receipts for rebates, etc... I don't do any photo printing.

Black/White and color cartridges will cost me about $50. Are the all-in-one printers a good buy? I know a HP can be had for $99. I'm not looking for anything that can print super quality pictures... Black and white is my main goal. And having the scanning/copying may make it worth the extra $50 for the upgrade.

Thoughts???

we bought that printer for one of the computers in the house... 2 weeks later, one of the OLDER printers (an awesome printer the HP2000C) broke, so i went out and bought another hp1210,

i really like it, works well-- decent photo pictures, quick printing and the scan/copy works well

Bought it...

Works very well actually. Prints better than my Epson and that's the most important thing to me. Having the scanning/copying is just icing on the cake.

Just a note about the old epson, even if the color ink is never used, it will dry out over time. I have an HP that does that every now and then and finally asked the office depot people why.

I learned something interesting yesterday. Epson printers have their print heads built into the printer, which translates into easier clogging of the heads over time.

HP printer heads are on the cartridges, so every time you get a new cart, you get a new head. Much better design, IMHO.

Wow, that is interesting. I agree, it does sound like a much better design.

ALL inkjets suck ink like crazy. Dell uses Lexmark to make their printers because they have a reputation for using the most ink. (Dell wants to sell lots of ink.) I'm not a huge fan of all in one printers because they usually cut a lot of corners to keep the price down. But if B&W and reasonable consumable costs are your goal, you should really have a laser.
