advice on laptop

so my computer went to shit so im just going to buy a laptop to replace it. i dont want something too big since im going to hook my monitor, keyboard and mouse up to it, and id like to take it when i travel.

this is what i prefer:
HD: atleast 250gb
ram: atleast 2gb
processor: i need some advice on this, dont want something slow, but i dont need top of the line
optical: need a dvd burner
windows vista, with upgrade to windows 7

use of computer: internet, cd/dvd burning. no games for me

budget: 1000max. but id be more comfortable around $700

i know its asking alot, but i know NOTHING about laptops lol.

thanks guys!

or if u guys can just tell me some good brands, i dont know much besides dell, sony etc... and then i can configure it on their website

or i was thinking about just going to bestbuy seeing what they have there

I don't think you'll have much trouble finding something to fit your needs and budget. Only thing I'm not sure about is the Win7 upgrade. Don't know who is offering that.

Just about all of them are offering a WIndows 7 upgrade, it's from MS. You can't go wrong with Dell, HP, Sony, Toshiba. I would buy from HP or Dell direct and would bypass BestBuy at all costs.

For 1k you can get a nice one, but I'd say about $700 price you'll be fine.

thats what i was figuring. my PC was a dell and it lasted 4 years of abuse, i rarely turned it off and it still worked amazing.

only reason why i would go to BB is because i hate the configurator thing on their websites. lol

the laptop im using now is a HP pavilion entertainment pc. im not a fan, this thing is junk

I have a HP laptop for work, five yrs old, starting to slow down. Wife has had a Dell for about the same time and now has a HP touch tablet.

Go to Best Buy and pick one that feels ok to you. Avoid Emachines, Acer and Gateway..

As I always say in every computer thread, it's where you buy in the company's product lineup that matters and not the brand. All of the major names make machines that range from quite good to total garbage.

you should really be able to get one for $500, $600 tops. Check out walmarts website, they sell dells, if you are a member of BJ's or Sams club, they also have good deals on Dells and HPs. Most/all far exceed your stated requirements.
