Of all the major tournaments over the years, Canada Cups, World Cups and Olympics, tourneys which involved NHL'ers.

Russia won 1 of 5 Canada Cups (1981) Canada won the other 4.
2 World Cups - 1996 and 2004. Russia won neither. States was 86, Canada was 04.
Since the 98 Olympics, when NHL players began participating....nope. Czechs, Canada, Sweden....Do I even have to mention Lake Placid?

So Russia is favored why exactly? On paper? Say what you will but Canada has the overall better team front to back...on paper.

I can see Russia winning the tournament, wouldn't surprise me one bit but history hardly supports the argument. The last big tournament they won was almost 30 years ago.
On paper, yeah. But, apparently, there is a cohesion on this squad not seen before. They also appear to be on the same page with the head coach. And, having arguably 3 of the most dynamic players on the planet on the same roster helps...

In regards to the Swiss, Canada seems to have had its issues with this team. They were shut out by them in the last Olympics, no...?

I hear the same thing every tournament. Not once have I heard someone in the media stating some facts about what they've won...which isn't much.

Now, if they do win, the legend of Ovechkin will soar to new heights. I can already see wstevens proclaiming him better than Gretzky, Lemieux and Orr.....combined.

In regards to the Swiss, Canada seems to have had its issues with this team. They were shut out by them in the last Olympics, no...?
Yup. That Hnat Dominicelli is quite the player apparently.

Pure fire power and skill. Which they always seem to have but this year seems more potent than ever.

It's probably the best thing for Canada in their hometown that they aren't everyones favorite, takes a little pressure off..

LOL! My friends and I were laughing at this the other day.. tandem luge is the gayest event in history, more than male figure skating IMO. The weird thing is the top guys in the sport are brothers.. sick.

Sid played his ass off last night, and won the game, not to mention the multiple sticks to the face that he took that he didn't say a word to the ref about.

It's OK, not everyone loves the showboating dirty douchebag either

BTW how'd Russia do last night? Just wondering...

I miss those certain sports of the summer Olympics.
I like how the Russian parliament said its about its country's performance and they continue to lose.

He didn't win the game, he won the shootout.

Russia lost and Ovie didn't get his ass kicked like Sydney did, Ovie was knocking men bigger than him on their ass, not standing in front of the net waiting to get hit in the face.

He apparently won't comment on what part of the rink he likes to skate on...Although, clearly, actions speak louder than words.
