Anyone else feel the canadian flag during the ceremony should be at half mast out of respect for the Luger and Georgia? I just noticed that it wasn't and think it would be a nice gesture.

yup, everything in Canada has to be in both languages. It's like when I fly up there... the flight attendant/pilot have to announce EVERYTHING in both English and French... but when I look around... I doubt if anyone on board ONLY speak French

For those that don't know the Haitian chick is the governor general of Canada, her position is more a figure head these days but any bills passed in parliment go through her for royal assent into law. It's kind of a legacy position because of our ties to the British commonwealth. While I agree Harper should have been in the spot light it's English pomp and circumstance IMO. Btw I'm a big Harper fan, he wrote his thesis on political manipulation of currency, and is probably the best leader to have in the house during tough economic times.

Also while he gets free tickets to the events he stated he would donate face value to each sport he attends out of his own pocket.

I was fine with him for a long time, but by now he's way too secretive and controlling, getting rid of any kind of dissent in his government especially people who are supposed to hold him accountable. He's doing exactly what he criticized the Liberals for. It's time for him to get out. I love how he suspended parliament just so that he could bask in the glow of the Olympics without facing any kind of questioning.

I'm glad the Governor General gets the spotlight, in a way it's a nice tribute to Haiti and she happens to be very charismatic. Hopefully we'll get back a little international reputation that our government has eroded over the last several years.

not to drag this into an R&P post, but just how many times did your pal Chretien prorogue? And like we need that blithering idiot Ignatief in power.

Anyhow, I'm just watching some recap of the ceremony and CTV and there hosts and guests are kind of annoying especially Ben Mulroney. The stupid transition music they seem to use for every scene is also mighty annoying. It seems the IOC or CTV are aggressively pulling vids off youtube as well, I was looking for the Nelly and Bryan adams clip and there was a few last night, but they've all disappeared, meanwhile ctv hasn't even updated their site.

My pal? I'm the kind of person who votes people out of power when they do something I don't like, and I helped vote the Liberals out. Now I think it's time to vote Harper out, I'm not going to give him a free pass because somebody else did something I didn't like before. And if seeing someone being dissatisfied with Harper bothers you to the point where you automatically slot them into the opposing party, your attitude sucks.

Anyone know where you can watch the opening ceremony on demand? My wife missed the ending.

Did anyone catch TSN last night between 7:30 and 8?

The cut away to Much Music people in Vancouver. Cue the Jello Shots and 'Drop your Gear for Beer' hot tub spot. When they cut back the TSN/CTV anchors their faces were

I was

And yes, CTV's coverage was pretty bad IMO. I was flipping over to NBC fairly often.

Yeah I checked on Rogers on Demand and they have some pre-game shows but not the opener. Hopefully they'll add it, but I was wondering if it's somewhere on-line too.

That sucked about the faulty pillar thing.

Oh yeah and Kanye says: sorry Gretzky, but Mohammed Ali was the greatest torch-lighter of ALL time.
