Won't argue the history, but IMO that's giving Garrett maybe too much credit for a premeditated act. It was a very physical game on both sides. Garrett found himself in the middle of an incident that he should have backed down from. But yes, there was a lot of potential here for things to have ended much worse than they did. But I don't think that potential means Garrett should go to jail. Suspended for a long time - yes.
And we shouldn't look past the fact Pouncy kicking him in the head on the ground too. There's a lot of "what if" scenarios there too that end badly.

As a paid professional, having self-restraint and discipline in the heat of the moment of a GAME should be something Garrett should be accountable for. Being suspended for the year and into next should've been what Goodell handed him.
The QB could've been severely injured and he has a prior concussion history too. Unforgivable idiotic moment by the Browns player. Period. And :ibjupitersolossaysdemons:...

Word around here is that Rudolph's agent is a lawyer and is looking into if charges can be filed

Are you talking about football or criminal conduct?
From a criminal perspective, there is a suspect, a victim, and a weapon in an aggravated assault. QB’s and DE’s don’t mean anything. You don’t get to pick a fight, get stabbed, and then say the guy assaulted you. That’s not how any of this works.
From a football perspective, Myles lost his mind and committed a heinous act of sportsmanship. I won’t apologize for him. What he did was wrong. The part that confuses me the most is that I watched literally everyone of his college games live or same day. We never saw this. Richy Incognito showed his thug side at Nebraska. Michael Bennett wasn’t an angel in college either. Myles wasn’t like that. That doesn’t excuse what he did though.
But to call someone a criminal is a step our society says has to be beyond doubt. Rudolph got tackled and tried to rip off Myles’ helmet. He isn’t an innocent bystander here, victim of a rampaging mad man, so let’s not pretend like he is.

If fights resulting from an inherently violent sport involving one guy hitting another in the head when he's not wearing a helmet is assault then the NHL can just shut down now.
This incident was a lot of things, but taking it to criminal assault seems way over the top IMO.

K. Dunno...not an expert on the matter. But, if say, the guy injured the QB so badly that it fractured his skull and something terrible happened, is that assault then?
It's just with pure luck IMO that the helmet connected on the thickest part of the skull.
I'm not debating you guys per se. Just seriously asking.

In the case that someone starts a fight with you, you have a right to defend yourself. My example about someone getting stabbed isn’t hypothetical. It’s happened, and there were no charges pressed.

Cry foul all you want, I hate the Raiders and Vontaze Burfict, but the NFL hands down arbitrary punishments. Video evidence screws players more than not, and everybody saw that on TNF.

I don’t remember crying foul. I laughed at all the Garrett haters. Like Doom bro-shaming him because he doesn’t power lift the way he wants him to. Garrett is a strong mother fucker.
Shit, I once watched him pull a grown ass man off the turf with just one hand by his face mask.

so... I'm a little confused... the "trick play" that the Patriots did today, where Brady passed the ball to Edelman and then Edelman to someone in the endzone... wasn't that a backward pass? (from Brady to Edelman)
#786
Believe it just falls into the category of a lateral, not considered a pass. So Edelman can initiate a forward pass after that. But if he fumbles the toss from Brady, it's a live ball not an incomplete pass.
