It was pretty ridiculous to leave him in there and run the score up just for the record and risking injury, but they wanted to give the crowd what they paid for.

I mean why not??

some would probably say it's stupid for the team to not go for it, if they didn't go for it.

yea but thats not what i was griping about... brees never comes out when he should like many top tier quarterbacks

i dont think him coming in for one more drive for 30 passing yards is classeless. the only reason the score was "run up" was because the record benchmark happened to be the 1 yard line..

just cruddy luck on the falcons part if you ask me.. no douchebaggery here, moving along.

if atlanta has a problem with it, they'll get their shot in the superdome a few weeks from now in the playoffs.

They make it like he chose to do it. Sean Payton wanted him to do it along with the whole team. If the Falcons didn't want that to happened, maybe they should've played better on D.

I wonder if Miami is regretting not picking up Bree's when they had the chance. Culpepper's been pretty good for them right?

It wasn't a choice they had, Brees picked NO over them.

Not the way I've heard it from a few reports. IIRC, Bree's wanted Miami, but they didn't want him.

And No.7 on Miami's most Heartbreaking moments.

Drew Brees or Daunte Culpepper? One of these two quarterbacks would surely descend from the free agency heavens and solve the Dolphins' agonizing, post-Dan Marino depression.

Sophomore head coach Nick Saban essentially had first dibs on the pair, but his medical staff was left to decide which severely-injured quarterback would return to top form. The Dolphins' staff deemed Culpepper's recently torn ACL favorable to Drew Brees' surgically repaired throwing shoulder, and the rest is history.

Miami sent a second-round pick to the Vikings in exchange for Culpepper's services. The team promptly signed him to a huge, undisclosed contract, which probably payed Culpepper upward $6 million per year.

After one season, the former Pro Bowler was ousted from South Beach.

From ESPN the Magazine.

So on the first night of free agency, March 11, it isn't the Chargers dialing Drew Brees; it's the Saints and the Dolphins. He checks his cell phone one last time before going to sleep to see if San Diego has called. Nothing.

IT'S LOOKING like Miami. The Saints are offering a stunning $10 million guaranteed-$8 million more than the Chargers-and Brees isn't signing it yet. So he must like Miami better, right?

But Miami's dragging, and the reason is the shoulder. Brees thinks San Diego has spread a rumor that his arm is a mess-Smith denies it-so he gives the Dolphins a DVD of his surgery and workouts. But Miami still chooses Daunte Culpepper over him. That leaves the Saints, the vagabond Saints. Brees sees the irony of it all. He is New Orleans: broken down. Undervalued. In need of reinventing. He signs the deal, and within minutes, his Chargers teammates are text messaging him, upset like hell. Of course, they don't say it publicly. They have Rivers to prop up now. Lorenzo Neal, Keenan McCardell and Roman Oben quickly contact the kid and tell him, "Let's go, this is what you've been waiting for." Tomlinson phones Rivers and tells him not to misconstrue his support of Brees as a lack of support for him. And Rivers, a solid guy who's just happy to be off the scout team, forgives him: "I know you're going to miss Drew. We're all going to miss Drew. But this is not a setback. We'll keep it going. It's not like I'm brand-new.''

OK, it was my understanding that the Dolphins wanted Brees and because they wanted a contract written as to what would happen if his arm wouldn't let him play. He said screw you and went to NO.

The stupid one's in this whole thing are the Chargers.

Supposedly the doctors are to blame. They told Saban that Brees' throwing shoulder was less likely to heal than Culpepper's knee. It's not like you need leg power to throw.

Little late to the Brees party, but congrats to him, it couldn't have happened to a better guy.

On that note, hopefully the Niners don't screw up and let the Lambs beat them allowing NO to take the second seed, but I really don't see that happening.

Having been a Jets fan since the early 80s, I feel somewhat vindicated in not having watched a Jet game since their meltdown in Denver. The J.E.T.S. of yesteryear are finally back. (BTW, J.E.T.S. = Just End The Season) Hey, I hope they bring Sanchez and back next year and maybe sign Namath to replace Brunnell as backup QB.

There was talk that Schottenheimer is on the short list for the Miami job. I hope he goes, he's way too predictable. Im beginning to think that Sanchez has as much QB intelligence as he's going to have. He keeps making the same rookie mistakes every week. I watched todays game on and off until there was about 4mins left and he lobbed that interception as he was getting sacked. He was half way down, he shouldve just protected the ball and taken the loss of yards. The only thing I give him credit for is trying to keep a play going, but most of the time he tries to be too clever and ends up giving the ball away. His accuracy wen't to shit this year too (not that he was very accurate to begin with). And Tannenbaum has got to stop constantly messing with the roster. Why let Brad Smith walk?? Edwards, while a pain in the ass off the field, was at least on the same page as Sanchez on the field. That's just the offense....

Sanchez set him self back this season. Schottenheimer is doing nothing to win fans over or let Sanchez grow (and in fairness I dont know if thats Rex or Cavanaugh mandating that). But Tannenbaum needs to be blamed for this too. He had a big hand in putting this team together.

ESPECIALLY with regards to Tannenbaum. And I won't jump on the anti-Sanchez bandwagon that many are on. There were clearly too many other systemic issues with the Jets offense to pin on a third year QB. (Anyway, numerically he has improved each year albeit marginally...and prior to today's game.)

BTW: did it seem to you that this team -- on the simplest level -- lacked heart? I mean, it's one thing to go into a game versus the Pats and get gang raped (twice) but versus all of the other mediocre teams as well (Oakland, Denver, Miami today). Gutless and heartless performance throughout the season.

Honestly, if I don't see anything positive happen in a major way next year, I just may have to retire my Jets fanship until there's a complete regime change or they do a Houston Oilers/Baltimore Colts and relocate. (Lord knows, I've placed my Mets fanship on hold until 2013.) More

They havent been an actual team since 2009. There is no drive. They come out in the first half, get a lead, and think the game is over. Even if they are up three possessions, the second the opponent scores, even a field goal, the entire team seems deflated and it all spirals out of control.

Now that football is over for me, I guess Ill start paying attention to the Knicks until baseball picks up again

Its way too early, but maybe there is hope

You're right: It's way too early. This was likely to be the case even if the Jets made it too another AFC Champ game. While it may not solely be his fault, we'll still have Mark Sanchez running the offense next season. And given the Jets general inability to properly prepare for games under "this administration", I think the Rex Ryan Jets era is over (albeit on borrowed time next season).

Romo has 47 passing yards in this game with 69 seconds to go in the half - Giants are making Cowboys look stupid...

And while you're at it.... Could you find some D. backs who can cover? And a quarterback not named Choke-mo, who might be able to raise his level of play in a big game? And a couple offensive lineman who can move their feet?

kthanks

First and foremost, finally let Terence Newman go. Whenever he is not injured, which is 50% of the time he has been on the Cowboys, he is susceptible to suck ass. As what happened today when he alone gave up about 200 yards receiving. He should not be allowed to even board the plane back to Dallas.

I can't blame Romo. He did all he could. It's not his fault the people around him weren't performing. Which brings me to my second and last point - Jason Witten.
Jason, you are 6'6" 245lbs. Why the fuck do you run like a pansy and let a 5'11" cornerback bring you down with no effort at all? YOU ARE BIGGER THAN EVERYONE IN THE SECONDARY. RUN THE MOTHERFUCKERS OVER. Every time I watch him catch the ball it looks like he gives in as soon as someone touches him; it hurts to watch.

The Cowboys, with all their talent, with all their shitty play, deserved get beat

Yeah I forgot to mention the need for new cornerbacks. I agree 100% about Romo. The criticism he gets is ridiculous and most of the time unwarranted.

Gotta love a Fins over Jets win and especially an elimination game. I hear the Fins want to interview their Def Coord but I don't see why the interest in Kurt.

Spags reportedly out

we shall see soon enough.

NO will be tough to beat

As much as I'd like to see the Niners make it to GB, I can't see them beating NO.

On the bright side, a NO - GB match up will be one hell of a fun game to watch.
