NFL: 2011 Draft and Off-Season News and Discussion Thread

Well, allow me to quickly turn the page on the 2010-2011 season and move onto the off-season where hope is renewed.

BEARS FOR THE SUPERBOWL NEXT SEASON...!

...but, let's see if those morons can draft a freaking O-line.

Some WRs would be nice too. Like, ones that can run a decent route.

Sadly, I have a feeling that may happen...let's just hope they can work it out.

Our o-line looked shoddy this year despite having what, I think 2-3 1st round draft picks, and a 2nd and 3rd rounder? Run blocking was good, but pass blocking was awful... I think Jim Harbaugh revamped basically the entire coaching staff, o-line coach included.

I'd like to see Prince Amukamara in the 1st round (think we are at #7) and maybe Christian Ponder in the 2nd. Ponder looked good in the Senior Bowl, making NFL-esque passes even with unfamiliar receivers (throwing to receiver on a comeback before receiver even turned around)

I don't like any of the QBs in this draft class that much. Slim chance we'll get Andrew Luck this year or the next anyway. As far as lockout goes, SUPPOSEDLY the commish and DeMaurice Smith (executive/vice president/blahblah of NFL players' blahblahblahblah) are meeting several times a week for several hours at a time to somehow work this out.... they'd better

If the players can't understand that they need a rookie pay scale, it's going to be hard. You would think more veteran players would want it that way, more in their pockets, for those who have proved themselves.

Medical, I don't like that the players who play a few years think they should have heath care for the rest of their lives. They know what they are doing and make a choice to play the game.

18 games, Why not? Allows for more competition and they can get paid more, they don't get their salary playing preseason games.

I agree with having a rookie pay scale, it's ridiculous how much players (and/or their agents) want nowadays. I also agree with the concessions for lifetime healthcare benefits being a little too much.

The 18 games though, Howie Long put it best... he sent out a message to the NFL executives and owners basically saying "you go out there, find a friend, both of you put on a set of pads and then run full speed into each other 20 times"

He didn't shoot down the idea of 18 games, but noted that if the league does expand it to 18 games (something I'm all for myself) then they need to expand rosters and possibly put in another bye week. Players break down enough as it is, and I agree with him.... but he outlined the guidelines in a much better way. can't remember it all exactly

Didn't know this thread was made. Combine starting up. Let's see how Cam measures up. Gabbert won't make throws though.

I don't think any of Condon's QBs throw at the combine.

Should be an interesting draft...but, probably the last of any action for awhile. I think we have a lockout incoming.

patrick peterson predicted to go 1st overall.

called "most talented football player and most gifted athlete physically in the draft"

yet cam newton won the heisman.

since when was the heisman about being an MVP?
i always understood the definition of the heisman award to be the "best college football player in the league"

cam = heisman winner
peterson = best football player

Heisman = likely NFL bust unfortunately. Best college skills doesn't always translate into best NFL skills.

Vick to sign tender offer with Eagles today - looks like he's locked in as our QB. Now the question is what will they do with Kolb?

they need fairley too...

come to think of it they need people all around the board...

biased aside.. i do think PP7 goes first...
a lot of teams would love to have the next best thing to Devin Hester on kick returns + great DB skills...

I don't doubt they'll think long and hard about him, but I think they'll lose Charles Johnson to FA (stupid not to tag him) because of my aforementioned views on their cheapass owner. Plus, having a 'local' kid be the cornerstone of your draft will get a few tickets sold.

Certainly could go multiple ways.

Thinking we'll take him at 4 if he falls that far. Chad is getting old and might be gone after this year (contract) and the rest of our WR core is thin, although we could use help elsewhere. Tough decisions, but this guy is a beast.

In a perfect world, you ship him to Cincy, we ship Palmer to Seattle to reunite him with Carroll and shut him up, and you guys get whatever you need to be happy.

This won't happen, but it would be nice. Mike Brown won't trade Palmer. Chad tried the same exact thing a few years ago (while making a way bigger fuss) and he didn't budge.

Although if Palmer is true to his word and retires, we will automatically be down to our 3rd string QB because his brother is somehow our #2 QB, and he's terrible, so he'll be gone. I think Carson even pays his salary

i been slacking since sunday... coulda been either... Peterson did play SOME receiver at LSU, but its def. not his strong suit.. he belongs in the secondary. hes not that great of a catcher TBH... but he was always in the perfect spot...

my fun was watching kickoffs... it was a coin flip to see if he was taking it down field.

even with his great run in the 40 yard dash i dont think he will go before Aj Green in the draft...Jones wont get drafted in the top ten

These were DB drills, I'm pretty sure it was one of the two. Didn't think to take a close look at the number.

As for Green/Jones, Green has the much better route running ability.

Word is that several teams including Cincy have expressed an interest in Kolb. I know he would like the chance to start but he knows our system so well he's good backup insurance for Vick. But if the Eagles could improve several other glaring weaknesses by trading him they just might.

PP was 3-4 yards ahead of Cam.. yet Cam still ran by PP. Cam also dragged PP 5-7 yards for the TD.

Yes I know PP had ridiculous combine #'s, but for Cam's size he also had some ridiculous numbers.

you're suggesting he outran peterson, which is, well, not feasible..

he was hit around the 5-6 yard line and FELL into the endzone... i didnt see any dragging. he also fumbled the ball with his lackluster carrying skills..

he's lucky that play didnt result in a turnover...

Lackluster carrying skills? I'm pretty sure his only fumble was in the BCS game. The ball crossed the goal line so he didn't fumble the ball

PP had a 5 yard advantage on Cam yet Cam somehow got by PP... how did that happen if Cam didn't outrun PP?
