Probelm is that how the voters define MVP shifts a little bit every year. I think there shold be 2 awards - NBA Player of the Year, defined as the best player, most outstadning player, the player you would pick first in a single game pickup game based on their performace that season. The MVP is just that - the player that meant the most to their team.
That way you get more flexibility. My player of the year would be Kobe.

Regarding the knicks, yeah I guess the Grizz could do much worse, but they (Grizz) were in the Knicks place a few years back. Then THE LOGO got here and turn the franchise around. I don't blame him for being pissed, since he is such a hard competitor and I don't know why but it would appear like they are not trying hard enough for some reason.

So to say that the MVP has nothing to do with the playoffs is not entirely correct.
Look at the history of the award. Almost all the MVP awards were handed to the players before a home game in the conference finals. Bird, Magic, Jordan in the 80s-90s, and even more recently, Shaq, Iverson,Duncan, Garnett in '04, etc...
Point is, while not directly related, there is a correllation between a regular season MVP and that players performance and how far he goes in the playoffs. Plus, look at how many of the regular season MVPs also went on to win the Finals MVP that same year (probably around 50%, while the other half was either on the losing team in the Finals or at least in the conference finals) and you'll see that the MVP and playoffs go hand in hand.
Nash is gonna look and feel pretty silly in a few weeks when the NBA flies him out to Dallas or San Antonio or LA for him to pick up his MVP trophy in a suit and tie, whereas the real MVP should pick up his trophy in his warm-ups while getting ready to lead his team to battle.

I can't remember when that wasn't the case. So unless the NBA presents his trophy in game 5, the NBA is going to have egg on their face giving a phony MVP his trophy after he was eliminated from the playoffs.

ESPN just said that Nash will indeed get his MVP trophy during game 5 in Phoenix on Tuesday.

I hear what you are saying but the reality is that the voting is done prior to the playoffs so the playoffs don't affect the focus of the award. I bet the NBA starts handing the MVP trophy in the first series of the playoffs next year.
edit: correction, it just became a reality

I just heard on ESPN that a winner of the MVP hasn't had less than 50 wins since 1982. If that is routine, I guess I am not that disappointed that Kobe didn't win. I just hope it’s that and not the character issues that many people have problems with.

I want to watch the nets game today, but it says on nba.com that nba tv will be showing it. I don't have nba tv. Am I screwed?
I hate going to a bar/sports bar to watch the game.
And I am in freaking jersey, and they are playing in jersey.

Has Nash commented on his two bonehead plays that handed the Lakers a victory? All i heard is his saying he did not call for a timeout.
MVP my ass.
And don't bother posting that the MVP is for the regular season only. Already know the voting format.
