Vlade to the Lakers... makes a full circle for his career and returns to where he started. I was hoping that Vlade would just retire, but oh well.

It was a biggie for me, he was my emotional fave Nuggie... the birdman baby!!!

I saw him at a Roy Jones Jr fight showing at Hooter's here in Denver. He was really funny and kept saying how he would buy everyone drinks if Roy knocked the guy out.

Nawlins is gettin one hella jumper, blocker and a show-stopper.

Junkster, who understands there was no spot left for the Bird

I want to hear Vlade say "I'd like to thank Shaq for keeping my seat warm while I was away". Well, that's one big body. Rumor has it that Karl Malone endoresed getting Vlade back. Hmmm, does that mean that Karl will come back to the Lakers? There will still be a glut of small forwards on this team. Butler, Odom (not really a power forward), George, Walton. I think there is still a trade in the works somewhere. The Lakers could use a backup point guard and another part-time defense-minded center.

What, you want us to go back to the 'rainbow' outfits?

yea, the powder blue reminds me too much of Tarheel blue... (BTW, I hate the Tarheels more then any other college team).

hahaha mo pete's game is soo broke. the guy can't do anything, can't dribble can't jump well, his jumper is broke like boozer's last contract. I swear the only thing keeping him on people's minds is his nick name mo pete, i guess it kinda sounds cool. T dot needs to trade for a player that puts people in the seats, because they ain't gona win that many games next year and if they don't put people in the arena they gona end up like the vancouver grizz. VC for AI would be good trade, rafer and AI in the backcourt should provide enough excitment for people to come to the games atleast.

But so would a healthy, producing VC. If he played like he did 3 years ago this team has a chance. I just think he's too broken down physically and emotionally to make a difference.

He has the ability to take over games and drop 50 on any given night. But it just doesn't happen anymore for whatever reason.

Its official. Divac is, once again, a Laker.

Divac comes full circle, rejoins LakersBy KEN PETERS, AP Sports Writer
July 20, 2004

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) -- Vlade Divac has come full circle to rejoin the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Lakers called an afternoon news conference Tuesday to announce the signing of Divac, who played the past six seasons for the Sacramento Kings.

The 36-year-old center will fill the spot left vacant when Shaquille O'Neal was traded to Miami last week. Brian Grant, acquired along with Lamar Odom and Caron Butler in that deal, will share duties at center.

The Lakers took Divac with the 26th pick in the 1989 NBA draft and he spent seven years with Los Angeles before the Lakers traded him to Charlotte in 1996 for the draft rights to Kobe Bryant.

Divac, an unrestricted free agent, still has a home in Los Angeles. He has agreed to a two-year deal that reportedly will pay him $4.9 million for next season.

Earlier, he said Sacramento did not show interest in keeping him. The Kings apparently wanted to avoid paying the luxury tax, and did not match the Lakers' offer.

The 7-foot-1 Divac averaged 9.9 points, 5.7 assists and 5.3 assists for Sacramento last season. He lost significant playing time when the Kings acquired All-Star center Brad Miller from Indiana, and Divac's scoring average was the lowest of his career.

He joined Sacramento in 1998, and the Kings made the playoffs six consecutive years with him as their center. Divac became a target of boos from the Lakers' fans while with Sacramento, and O'Neal accused him of ``flopping'' to get calls from the referees. The revamped Lakers could have a starting lineup of Divac at center, Bryant and Gary Payton at guard, Odom at small forward and -- if he decides to return for another year -- Karl Malone at power forward.

Is Brad Miller a center? Is he even 6'10?

EDIT: He's a 7 ft'er but a fairly skinny center at only 261.

Brad Miller is a beast, though, a ruggedly built 260... if that's his real weight. (yea, shaq's only 340... right).

Man, E. Snow is a good pick up for the Cavs. That guy never needs the ball on offense and he still plays defense for you. Good move by Cavs.

damn this off season is busy almost on an hourly basis...

Shaq officially lands in Miami... goofiness ensues.

More official news... Nick van Exel to Portland for Dickau and Dale Davis.
Didn't Portland say last year that they want good guys with good personalities? I know Nick's great off-court (lots of charitable work, but so was Rasheed), but his on court antics are what they wanted?

Stop the presses, Ostertag signs!

More NBA news,

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- Center Greg Ostertag signed with the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday, leaving the Utah Jazz after nine seasons.

The terms of Ostertag's deal weren't immediately available. He signed with Sacramento on the same day center Vlade Divac left the Kings to rejoin the Los Angeles Lakers.

Ostertag averaged 5.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.85 blocks during his career with the Jazz, who made him a first-round draft pick in 1995. He played in two NBA Finals with Utah in 1997 and 1998.

With Mehmet Okur and Carlos Boozer expected to join the Jazz after signing offer sheets earlier this month, Utah had a glut of big men. Jarron Collins and Curtis Borchardt still are under contract, and the Jazz made little effort to re-sign Ostertag. In Sacramento, Ostertag will back up All-Star center Brad Miller.

If Kobe called you on your cell right now, what would you say?

O'Neal: I don't have a cell phone. People that I'm connected with ... all you got to do is think -- I call you. I don't have a cell phone and that's the problem with Diesel -- I'm technologically more advanced than you are. My thought process begins where the regular human apex is at.

Oh Kobe has a personality, it's just that of a spoiled petulant brat who has to have his way now matter what. The Lakers screwed up by trading Shaq.

I think that Divac will only be capable of providing them with 20 - 25 minutes per night at center, is Bryant Grant expected to play the rest of the time? Will 42 year old Karl Malone be the starting power forward or will they go with a small lineup of Payton at 1, Kobe at 2, Caron Butler at 3, Odom at 4, and Malone/Divac at 5? I've been thinking about their lineup combinations and none of them are good enough to get a high seed in the playoffs.

i think kobe's gona be fine. As soon as the "if the condom don't fit you must aqquit" happenes he's gona be like a new man. Through the years of watching kobe i believe he is the closest to the second comming of mj. No one in the league is anywhere close to his mental toughness couple that with his physical skills he can truly be unstoppable. I read an article on espn where they pulled 8 GMs and coaches and everyone of them said when the game is on the line they'll give the ball to kobe and let him create. Basketball at the nba level is all about mental toughness because your physical skills are so similar to the other players that the only thing separating you from the pack is your mental toughness and i think in that aspect kobe is head and shoulders above the rest of the pack

I think once they double kobe and he really doesn't have someone he is confident in giving the ball up to, we will see how much the Laker organization will regret getting rid of Shaq. I really feel like Kobe will self destruct this season by running the Laker's one man show. I double they get out the first round of the playoffs.

It will be interesting to see if they make the playoffs this year. Also will there be enough balls to go around to keep everyone happy and productive in LA? Remember that their point guard, Gary Payton, needs the ball in order to be productive, Kobe will always it in order to throw up 8 or 9 wild shots per night, Lamar Odom is a bonafide point forward and Caron Butler will also need some touches. How long will it be before the grumbling begins and Odom wants to switch locker rooms and rejoin the Clippers?

The Toronto Sun reports that the Raptors will match an offer sheet that forward Morris Peterson signed with the New Orleans Hornets two weeks ago.

The Hornets did not release the amount of the offer, citing club policy. Peterson's agent, Rob Pelinka, said the deal was worth $15 million US over three years.

Peterson played in every game for the Raptors last season, starting 29, and averaged 8.3 points and 3.2 rebounds.

In the 2000 NBA draft, he was Toronto's first-round pick, 21st overall.

Toronto general manager Rob Babcock had said he hoped to keep Peterson in the fold.

Report: Raptors offer Vince, Rose to Hornets

Vince Carter has yet to comment on the numerous trade talks surrounding his future, maybe now will be the time?

Sportsnet.ca - A trade involving Raptors' franchise Vince Carter and teammate Jalen Rose is lighting up the airwaves in New Orleans, according to WGNO, the cities' local sports radio.

According to the radio report, Toronto has offered Carter and Rose in exchange for P.J. Brown and Canadian Jamaal Magloire. The deal reportedly will include an undisclosed amount of cash. It is no secret in Toronto that Vince Carter is unhappy with his exclusion from the Raptors' off-season revamping of its front office and coaching staff.

Also: MoPete returning to Raps

Carter has yet to comment on the ordeal, but on several occasions has voiced his discontent with executive Richard Peddie. Carter's closest friends have revealed the star wouldn't return to the Raptors unless Richard Peddie, president and CEO of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd., consultant Jack McCloskey, and director of player personnel Jim Kelley, were all fired.

"In due time. I'm definitely going to fill everybody in when it's time," said Carter, who will host his annual charity all-star game July 30th at the Air Canada Centre. "I have nothing to say right now, but I promise in due time."

Magloire, a 6'11 centre, is a native of the city, and has hinted in the past about his desire to play in front of his friends and family. Last season with the Hornets, Magloire averaged 13.7 PPG, while posting 10.3 RPG. Brown, a 6'11 forward, led the team in FG percentage while averaging 10.3 PPG.

In Jalen Rose, the Hornets would get a skilled guard while adding the marquee player needed to play alongside Baron Davis.

This does'nt make alot of sense. I love Magloire's game, he's a bonafide center and Toronto native but giving up both your premire guards for two forwards/centers seems strange and the same can be said for New Orleans. They'd be losing all their size? I have my doubts on this one.

Anyone know if the salaries even match?

Those numbers seem high. seriously. This is a guy who could'nt deleiver with VC out of the lineup. He was continually asked to step up and never did. Big mistake.

That's not much production from a former #1 draft pick.
