Hey, IlliNorge: Just wondering, but are any of the players traded for Santana on the Twins roster and how're they doing?

Not jumping the gun here on judging the trade, just mildly curious how it's looking so far.

Carlos Gomez. Even Hawk Harrelson likes this guy. 15 SB's, 3 HR's, and pretty solid defense in centerfield. The other three guys are in the minors. This Phil Humber guy seems like a decent pitcher.

^ Cool. As much as I hate your team, I do admire their resiliency and ability to build a competitive roster even if the budget is peanuts a la Marlins.

And @ Carlos Zambrano pinch hitting for Gallagher today.

@ Jason Isringhausen going on the disabled list because he cut his right hand during a tantrum.

John Tudor anyone?

Meanwhile the Twins are shut down again by a Canadian pitcher.

big talk for a team that had possibly the worst breakdown in history. think you guys can make the playoffs this year?

yanks are in the same position as last year... and they made the playoffs.

Can you explain why Yankee fans always look to the past to rationalize the present?

the past? you make it sound like i'm going back 30 years... i'm just talking about last year... same teams, almost same rosters.

I didn't make it sound like anything. It is the past. The fact is, we kicked the piss out of the Yankees this weekend and there is nothing you can say to make that go away. Bring up all the playoff appearances you've been in and all the world series you've won. Mention our meltdowns and failed attempts. Doesn't matter.

You guys got your asses handed to you this weekend

what's the point? you guys win a few games... yankees or not it's mid may and means nothing right now. it's ok, you can soak up what it feels like to win. as a yankee fan i've got to experience it a lot, can't expect it every year, but i've had a lot of good times... more than mets fans can say.

Is it so hard to just say congrats? To give credit to the lowly Mets for beating your blessed Yankees? I guess so, and instead you, as expected, bring up your past victories.

And I never understood that point. Why are the games in mid may less valuable than the ones in September? Every game has value. If the Yankees miss the playoffs by one game this year, are you gonna tell me that losing to the Mets last night had no value?

Yes, you have experienced many more victories than me. I can't argue with that. Hopefully things will change and Mets start winning the way they can. All I know is that right now it feels great to be a Met fan, sitting 1 game out of first place behind Florida. Of the Yankee fans I know, all I hear his crying and frustration.

relax dude... what victories/championships did i mention? all i basically said was that mets fans were talking the same talk last year and look what happened. yanks made it to playoffs and mets didnt... didn't mention any specific victories or wins did i? so yes, may means nothing because everyone was saying we were out of it in may.

it's ok, take your 2 wins. you can have them. and no, if we are out by 1 game come october i'm not going to say "well damn if we had taken 1 game from the mets that weekend..." i'll say the yanks aren't generating offense and pitching is completely inconsistent.

what point are you trying to make other than rubbing in taking 2 games from the yanks? you want approval? we all know if yankees won and i came on here acting the same way, you sure as hell wouldn't.

I'm sure this conversation was repeated several times over in the 9th inning last night in Yankee Stadium.

My softball team would be tearing it up if we got to play the Pirates at home all the time.

Did you see the guy who made the last out yesterday? He looked like he was 12.

@ Tudor...

And about pitchers owning the Twips. But, if it makes you feel better, um...the ChiSox are back up leading the division again. Oh wait. Whoopsh.

Well, I very rarely blame the managers for performance, but i am kinda peeved at Willie right now. How the hell do you let the umpires take away a 3-run home run and not get thrown out of the game? But the bench coach does get thrown out. Come on willie, get off your high perch and show some fucking emotion.

And by the way, I really hope that ESPN doesn't cover many more Mets games, I wanted to stab myself in the ears listening to the commentary.

yea ESPN commentary is horrible. their a bunch of idiots. they spent 30 minutes debating about the foul pole being the wrong place and then finally realized the camera angles were playing tricks. not to mention they tend to commentate in favor of whoever the yankees are playing since everyone hates the evil empire.

My favorite quote of the night, after the umpires botched that homerun call:

"it was tough to see, you can't blame the umpires for making that call"

Or something like that

I can't stand Joe Morgan, but he had a point. If you're going to overrule a call, you better be 100% right.

The team of Hershiser, Shulman, and that Mets former exec are very good though.

I rather my team not make the playoffs than be up 3-0 on the Red Sox and then melt down.

Plus is he the youngest player in the majors. He can be really good. They say Guerra has ace or #2 potential as well. Humber and Mulvey (I think it was Mulvey) are projected to be # 3 or #4 starters.

Yea, I always forget.

Hey Clean? Which team was the first team in HISTORY to lose a series after being up 3 games to none?

I think you know

Yankee fans lost any right to make fun of a team breaking down after that display of choking

I would have to disagree that yankee fans don't have a right to make fun of the mets for their choke considering they made a little history of their own...

No team holding a seven game lead with only 17 games to play ever failed to win their division. They would go on a tear and proceed to lose 12 of those last 17 games. Result: Not even make the playoffs.

Ravi - oh come on, everyone wants their team to make playoffs but obviously no one wants to see your team go down after being up 3-0. Regardless I think EVERYONE wants their team in the playoffs and to have an opportunity to win the championship. Choke? I guess so, but aside from games 3 and 7, the entire series was very tight. Imo - it was a good series generally and pretty entertaining... up until game 7.
