Well I'm not really against Al Leiter, he's a proven winner and all (Toronto, Florida, etc..) and I've actually been a fan of his for a long time. But I just think Martinez put him in a bad situation when he should have used better judgement and used someone else.

I'm sure there's people that disagree but maybe I just don't like his style of coaching

If you were a Marlin or Yankee fan you'd change your tune. In 04 he had a good year but he totally sucked last year. His game went to shit.

Word whenever Leiter or Sturtze came in I would cringe and have to turn the game off and come back later.

2nd round for the WBC. USA came back with the fury. Rocket whooped that ass and Griffey with 7 RBI's.

I know Platano is ready for DR vs Cuba. I hope DR whoops that ass. Anyone hear the bitch move that the Cuban delegate did? That pussy went with some goons to approach a Cuban living in Puerto Rico that had a sign that read Abajo Castro (Down with Castro). PR owned them though, and kicked them out of the stadium. The Cuba's bitchass wanted to leave the tourney because of fans' signs. The local police didn't give a shit and weren't going to do anything about it because they believed in the fans' rights of freedom of speech. Where my Boricuas at???

And I'm still pissed at Bud for not scheduling any games in Miami. Every damn race in there lives here plus we have hotels. Probably Bud's way of saying FU to the Fish for threatening to move and cutting the team apart. Not the first time after they took away the All Star game after we dismanted in 98. MLB pisses me off.

Yeah man I was at the bar last night watching that game on ESPN in Espanol and cracking on the Cubans. Then once Beltran took off his hat and showed his blond highlights I had to start cracking on the Puerto Ricans because Beltran was looking like A-Rod..I was starting trouble ..lol Beltran is swinging a good bat, it looks like he is gonna have a good year and Bernie well hopefully he can still catch.

Yankees fans need to let go of Bernie. My cousin was telling me all about how he is gonna be a big sleeper this year and I should draft him.

He is finished, and even if he does get a tiny amount of at-bats, very few of them will result in any production

True Bernie is pretty much done, just looking at some of his at bats during the WBC is proof enough. The thing is Bernie is a classy guy and deserves the respect to retire as a Yankee and on his own terms.

Right, but it will probably affect his swing like last year. Anyhoo, not the Sox' problem anymore.

Report: Selig to investigate Bonds

ESPN.com news services

Baseball will reportedly investigate the steroids controversy swirling around Barry Bonds.

The New York Daily News reported Thursday that commissioner Bud Selig has already decided to begin an investigation, according to an unidentified baseball official.

The newspaper said Selig is expected to announce the decision next week, but hadn't yet decided if the investigation would be done by Major League Baseball officials or outside investigators.

A suspension, however, is not likely in the near term, two league sources told ESPN's Pedro Gomez. The league has no grounds for discipline, the sources said, although that could change if the government indicts Bonds on perjury or tax evasion charges.

Two books that are being released this spring accuse Bonds of using steroids, human growth hormone and insulin for at least five seasons beginning in 1998. Baseball did not ban performance-enhancing substances until after the 2002 season, and Bonds has denied ever knowingly using performance-enhancing drugs.

Selig also faces pressure from Congress. On Wednesday, Rep. Cliff Stearns, who previously sponsored legislation calling for tougher drug testing in pro sports, sent the commissioner a letter asking about his role in policing steroid use from 1998 to 2002.

"As commissioner, you have the essential responsibility to safeguard the integrity of the game and to ensure that cheaters have no place in professional baseball," Stearns said in the letter.

Specifically, the Florida Republican asked Selig for information about a 2004 meeting with Bonds, baseball's policy for addressing alleged steroid use if a player doesn't fail a drug test and what Selig's authority is to investigate alleged steroid use.

Under pressure from Congress before last season, the players' association agreed to toughen drug testing rules and penalties.

Bonds broke Mark McGwire's single-season home run record in 2001 and is approaching Babe Ruth's career total.

Now it's just a question of whether his surgically repaired right knee is ready for the daily rigors of playing in the field.

Bonds, in the lineup on back-to-back days for the first time this spring, homered for the second straight day and made a brief appearance in left field in the Giants' 10-6 victory Wednesday over the Brewers.

Despite being hounded by allegations of steroid use and slowed by his knee, Bonds is in midseason form at the plate. He is 7-for-9 with three home runs and a double in four games.

He played in left for the second time this spring, leaving after his homer in the bottom of the second inning.

Bonds has 708 home runs in his career, seven shy of passing Ruth and 48 away from breaking Hank Aaron's career record of 755.

Selig would not publicly commit to an investigation last week.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Personally, I dont like Bonds, I think he is an asshole and would like to see him go down for this.

Generally, to show that baseball in making another attempt to clean up the game. I think Pete Rose had a good point on Bill Maher the other night though...the long ball hitters brougt a lot more fans back to the game. If the players are "cheating" that might turn off people...I dont think it will have that big of an impact but I imagine Selig wants to save the image of baseball as much as possible.

I know I started following baseball again after the '98 season. Bonds still attracts a shitoad of people to Giant's stadium (dont know what the same of it is now, PacBell, SBC, ATT??)

One of the main reasons why Bonds will not be suspended is the MLB players union. Donald Fehr has too much power to let that happen. He can't be suspended unless he tests positive, or is indicted, which may happen

Barry "Boo-Hoo" Bonds

Horray Mark Prior. Now I see why I was one of maybe 25% of Cubs fans that did not want to see him be traded for Miggie.

Well, Lee has a shoulder issue now. Peachy.

So, aside from Pie being the lone highlight in spring so far...can we say finishing 4th now in the division?

Selig said while on ESPN during the game that the Bonds investigation is not for sure yet. They want to see what happens legalwise.
