I'd take Toews over Backstrom (or Malkin)...but, you knew that already, and I really don't need to post my reasons (i.e. exceptional 2-way play, face-off percentage, ability to score)...

Although, if you're to go with cap value (which is the pool I'm in), Stamkos would go #1 overall...

I mean there are a ton of intangibles when talking top players, especially D men. I could see why you would want a guy like Shea Weber over Green, because he can actually play D/physical and still puts up the points. And you could argue Toews > Backstrom for his leadership ability and 2-way play. Malkin is more of a power forward than Toews and will get you more points.

Malkin had an off year...but, yes...franchise player, no doubt.

And yes, I agree.
When Chicago passed up on Kessel...it was because well, they wanted Toronto to have a better player when they acquired him from Boston.

I skate at the Leafs practice facility and one of the rink guys who works there told me last night that if Kessell stays healthy, he will score 50. Maybe he sees something everyone else doesn't.
Just to put things into perspective, this same guy once told us a story about how he picked up this girl from the local bar. He said "she was tiny. She must have weighed like 190".

On a team like the Caps...? I'd say he's got a good chance.

Leafs should trade Phil the Thrill for Ovechkin.

One day, one day I'll visit Edmonton and get arrested for the destruction of a Robot collection.
Senior Moderator
You would be unable to bring yourself to such actions.
Senior Moderator
You're right. I'll destroy everything but the G1 bots. And anything Robotech or Voltron related. But everything else is going up in Flames. Along with the Hawks chance of repeating as champs.
Senior Moderator
FINE. I'm cheering for Ottawa this year.
Senior Moderator
And I don't own any Robotech stuff.
Okay, maybe two Veritechs. So, there.
You'd totally pass over the Macross boxes...

Things will be different this year, I expect big things from him
Off year for sure, as long as he stays healthy, he will be on a tear, especially being moved to wing

Watching the Versus coverage of Carolina vs Minnesota. The commentators are really dumbing down the game. They make the most obvious comments as if they are teaching the game to the viewers. Their analysis is so basic.
The sizzle in the Steak
^^ Versus sucks.....ESPN was sooooo much better.
...but besides the local Fox network, in the states.....Versus is all we got....bummer.

Consider the Americans we're dealing with in this thread to understand why they have to dumb the game down.
The sizzle in the Steak
Would rather listen to Vs, than have ESPN kill the game for me as they have done with the NFL. ESPN is nothing but a shit-hyperbole of a network.
The sizzle in the Steak
^^ I'm talking back in the day ESPN NHL coverage.
bottom line is Versus is horrible....and perhaps ESPN (the evil 4 letter) has gotten worse......but back in the day having an NHL game on almost every night was great....and I enjoyed the ESPN coverage.

Um, well...not to hate, but I think that sealed their chances on winning this year.
